Hello all,
I have been asked to find a Cessna 421 or a B90 for my mate's boss. The funds available are in the region of 300,000 USD and it is going to be used for private use and occasional charter.
I am looking for general information on both this types, things to look for, things to avoid, major ADs to check, variants, rough prices... anything really that you think could be useful to somebody contemplating buying one of these.
Thanks very much

For a rough guide on prices look on www.controller.com
If it is gonna be used for Charter be careful with the restrictions due to needing an AOC.

A couple of questions that will narrow down your search considerably.
1. Where is the Aircraft going to be based?
2. Is the aircraft going to supplement its operating costs by operating some AOC / Public transport work.

The aircraft will be based in Spain and the owner does intend to do airtaxi work. The plan at present is to operate it under another operators AOC initially, negotiations are under way with a couple of AOC holders.

if you go the be-90 route, speak to Sonsoles at BKS based BCN. Good operator with quite a lot of work on.
If you can buy one on the EC reg, if not its easier to convert from N reg to EC rather than other EU to EC, good ole JAA.

The B90 is a much better machine, although i very much doubt you will find one for less than 700,000 usd.
If you do you will have to put it on a public transport CofA, if you can find one with a european reg already on it, even private cat it should be ok to transfer to public transport. Be carful of cycles on the airframe if it`s UK reg as there is a limit. The best B90 is the "E" a very good performer [ bigger engines] and Sterling at Norwich can do your type rating!. Good luck.

Thanks, I have seen one B90 in Denmark at a very good price and seemingly in good condition. Apparently the engines are OK for a private C of A but will need replacing to put it on Public Transport. After looking at the market I think we will go with the Cessna. I realise the B90 is a much more capable aircraft but possibly beyond the buyers budget at present.
Any more pointers on what to look for in a used Golden Eagle?

Yes, watch out for the wing. The FAA has issued an AD note (airworthiness directive) on the 421 wings. Seems one or two have shead their wings in flight. Bad Show, Actually. (Sorry, couldn't resist) Good 421s are not much cheaper than good BE90s.
In the 421, I would stay with a C model. Better performance and better systems.
The BE90, I would go with the C90. While the E90 has flat rated engines for better high hot. The C90 is lighter and a lower gross which actually works out to a better useful load than the E90. Also less expensive than an E90.
