Hi everyone,

what do you think of this:

high performance aircraft (http://www.hp-aircraft.de/edoc/home.html)

Itīs a start-up company currently building a brand new certified production pressurized 5seat twin aircraft.

The head of the company is Heiko Teegen long time aviation journalist, pilot, and editor of the German G/A mag "Pilot und Flugzeug" (Pilot and Airplane)

As you will see on the website itīs quite a revolutionary concept using two turbocharged liquid cooled V8 automobile Diesel engines mounted in the aft part of the fuselage behind the passengers driving 2 props

The website is still pretty new, does give some good information about the projct but is lacking enough pictures.

Please let me know what you think of this!

By the way. They are serious. At this early stage they have already secured 5,7 mio Euros and applied for type cerification with the german authorities. about 40 aircraft have been sold to date.

Good feeling except if you read through this details:

Full Seats @ Normal Cruise 950 NM / 1.400 km

Full Seats @ Long Range Cruise 850 NM / 1.500 km

A little mistake!

Some interesting concepts, however using diesel could be a problem as it isn't readily available from airport refuellers. It would be good for work in the Australian outback as diesel is everywhere but the local CAA(actually CASA) might have some problems about fuel quality control. Why not an automobile engine using Avgas?

CaptCaveman,

actually the idea is to use Jet A1 fuel in a diesel engine. Diesel engines are far more economical than AVGAS or autogas engines and Jet A1 availability should not be a problem.

you are right. I guess the whole thing is still pretty much a one man show and little mistakes like that easily go unnoticed...

Sadly, the founder and boss oft he company, Heiko Teegen has been killed in a tragic accident last year. However both the company as and his aviation magazine continue to exist.

Best of luck to them!

It has been pretty quiet recently at high performance aircraft, the company behind the new 5-seat diesel/Jet A1 twin.

But yesterday it made its first flight.

Have a look here:

What do you guys think? Is there a future for this aircraft. Price will be around 500,000 Euros.

Seems rather expensive considering that not much more will get you into one of the new ultra-light jets (e.g., Eclipse).

IMHO it probably will not be a commercial success.
Historically, complex, geared propulsion systems end up being more trouble than they are worth. Why not turbofans?, instead of an unproven V8, they barely have proven the long-term reliability of their 4-cyl. engines.
But it does look good.
