From the UAE Gulf News(26/11):

"An airline captain was questioned by Dubai Police when they discovered he was carrying an air pistol in his luggage, said a police official.

According to Major General Ismail Al Gergawi, Director of the General Directorate of Ports and Airports, the police were performing a routine check-up when they found the pistol a few days ago.

"They found the pistol in the captain's hand luggage," he said. The airline was Asian, and bound for an Asian country, carrying 200 passengers.

"When the captain was questioned, he said that he had bought the pistol in the local market and he was going to use it for target shooting," said Maj. Gen. Al Gergawi.

The captain should have informed the airport authorities and his airline that he was carrying the weapon. Police seized the gun and let the captain off.

"Many do not consider it a deadly weapon even though it can kill in some circumstances. However, for those uninitiated in guns, it can look pretty menacing," he said."
