 I am planning to do a Motorcycle tour from Dubai down into Oman and back in early December 02.

i'd be grateful if anyone could give me an idea how difficult it would be to get on a given flight (SA Travel) in and out of Dubai.

If it is too much of a hassle, I'll just go full fare, i have just checked BA and KLM, I can do Miami-London-Dubai and back for about 1300 US$ which is not bad.

Any info is welcome!

Hi FD!

If you haven't already found it, keep your eye on this site. It's currently got some good winter fares to Europe for US citizens.

Not sure what 'SA Travel' is but if you mean some sort of airline staff standby then forget about BA, because DXB is one of the nightmare routes. Quite common to leave 40+ staff behind every day during the school holidays! Mind you if you're prepared to travel on unpopular days (25th/26th Dec, 31stDec/1st Jan) you'd probably be OK.

December 2002 is just around the end of the Islamic holy month Ramadan which is immediately followed by Eid Al-Fitr. Schools will be out and people are traveling, you can expect things to be busy and possibly embargoed.

Have you checked out fares through a travel agent rather than the airline? I've found that these can be a lot better than airline published fares on the web.

These prices are an example through a Dublin based travel agent.

DUB-DXB All prices are in Euro, exclude taxes (see below) and are subject to availability

Crossair 445
Lufthansa 465
KLM 473
Austrian Airlines 490
Gulf Air 511
Alitalia 524
Air France 536
Olympic Airways 553
Qatar Airways 561
British Airways 610
Kuwait Airways 630

MIA-DUB All prices are in Euro, exclude taxes (see below) and are subject to availability
Airline Adult
American Airlines 424
KLM 434
Continental Airlines 442
Crossair 444
United Airlines 462
US Airways 483
Air France 490
British Airways 515
Alitalia 582
Iberia 607
Martinair 756

The EURO is now equal to the US$, so you should be able to get this trip for less than $1000

Enjoy the trip.

Thanks Guys (Gals), super stuff! I knew this was the right place to look for some info.

If I can bring anyone a Cayman Rumcake or Rum without the cake let me know. On the other hand, maybe I shouldn't bring anything alcoholic, might offend local custom.

FD,
If you can buy ZED fare tickets from your staff travel then take a chance and save some money. These can be used on BA,EK,AF or LH which gives you a vast number of options. BA can be a nightmare to get on, but Emirates have 5 flights a day to London, 2 to Frankfurt and 1 to Paris and there's also LH and AF flying daily to Frankfurt and Paris. If you are on your own and flexible, then you'll get on something. As previously mentioned try and beat the Christmas end of school rush.
BTW you can bring 4 bottles of anything into Dubai so you don't have to hide it in a cake.

Hi fluf!

You may be interested to note that MAS runs a service direct from New York(EWR) to Dubai. I am not sure if it is daily, because their schedule is down at the moment.

It's Tue/Fri/Sun to Dubai - 11:15/08:55(Dec) and Tue/Fri/Sun from Dubai - 03:40/09:45(Dec). Aircraft is 777.

Emirates will be running a non-stop service from New York to Dubai early next year, if you can wait.
