VIP flights

I have by numerous occations seen corporate jets flash their landing lights (left and right - one at the time) during departure and final approach. Is that an indication of a VIP flight (since some of the mentioned flights was VIP...)?

I have only seen this special feature on corporate jets - never on an airliner.

was this by any chance when you were sitting in your Ford Cortina by the fence at Luton, sipping tea from a steel flask, ear glued to a transceiver, and your anorak folded on the back seat in case of inclement weather?
Flashing landing lights is actually a secret code among corporate crews indicating that..........oops, I can't tell you, cos if you knew, we'd have to.......

Yes you are quite right, aircraft carrying VVIP heads of State are required to pre-warn the tower of their arrival by flashing there little lights, at this point the red carpet is laid out on the tarmac (not before) and the band starts playing.

Fixedwingsforever, certain executive jets and even airliners are fitted with a landing light modification. This allows the lights to flash as a means of enhancing visibility.

:D yep, its all true. My last but one corporate steed had a button in the panel that was marked 'pulse'.
This 'pulsed' the recog lights and looked very cool as you passed another vvip carrying machine 1000' above or even below, closing at 1000 knots on a clear night.
This action is of course mandatory in controlled airspace, but only in Spain when its a long way to Barlu and we've finished our tea.
