Just heard that the Singapore Authorities aka as CAAS - Committee Against Aviation in Singapore have just announced they will ban aircraft over 20,000kg from Seletar and force them to Changi using the rediculous lounge they have in Terminal 1.
Only found this out as I had to use Changi to get out at MTOW which is not possible at Seletar.
Do those DoDo's at CAAS not undertstand that the average corporate jet pax wants to avoid Terminals the size of Changi, even if they are good, They dont want to go out in buses to remote ramps miles away and be seen walking thru terminals in search of a lounge. Corportate jets offer discretion but obviously not in Singapore.
To add insult they then sting you a wacking big bill for the hassle. We turned up, no Customs, Immigration or lounge staff for our pax. Just a shambles - Seletar may be old, rough but it works. Anyone your knows the Universal office knows what I mean.

Yes Seletar is an old aerodrome but she is full of character and very convenient.
The CAAS and Military seem determined to make life as unbearable as possible for those of us based at WSSL though. They are planning to build a fence around the airfield INSIDE the hangers and buildings.
At the last meeting I went to no-one from CAAS even wanted to have the fence on the agenda........and the military don't turn up to these meetings. It took several meeting and a lot of heated 'discussion' before they would agree to the 'compromise' of gates in the fence adjacent to hanger doors. It took more to get them to agree that the gates should be as wide as the hanger doors themselves.
They pretend to listen to(sought) our opinions on how Seletar can be improved but in reality, I suspect, it's just window dressing.
Believe me when I say that all of us who call Seletar home are VERY worked up about what is happening.

Correct if I'm wrong. But is it not the plan to totaly close WSSL when the 3rd runway is complete at Changi .? What a nightmare that will be.
foonote: Anyone passing through WSSL should take a walk around. Its a delightful and slightly historical RAF airfield dating back to WW2. There are still bullet holes in some of the hangar doors (doors are 1/2 inch steel). It has to be amongst the worlds most quant and picturesque airfields.
Time is running out; in few years it will be yet another forest of HDB's.

I am told that about a year ago the government extended the lease on Seletar for another 10 years. having said that the Singapore Government tends to be at the whim of the developers hammer.
The Singapore Government is building a third runway at Changi but this is going to be military as it is lkinked to the Naval base close by.
There was a rule at Changi preventing aircraft of less than 50 seats using the place - beneath them to see small aircraft using such a fine facility :D :D :D :D
Seriously, Seletar for all its shortcomings works and is what most operators need or want.

I don't see Seletar becoming a sea of HDBs.......maybe a private field for SQ Creche, Singapore Aero Club?
RF2..........except for SQ's Lear 45 trainers.........perhaps WSSL, on a dark night, is more challenge than they want:D
They say they want to develope WSSL to it's full potential......well that's what they say?
