I am a 747 Captain for a 121 airline (sked air transport carrier). I missed a flight home from FLL to ORD last week and requested a jumpseat on a TWA MD80 at the next gate to STL. This was the last flight of the day and closest to Chicago.
"No, you are not on our list" was the short reply from the Captain.
Well Captain Anus, that may be so. However, let me tell you, if Amercan had'nt bailed your sad ass from bankruptcy, YOU would probably be asking me for a jumpseat!

Heathrow Director... I thought this site was for flight crew, not GROUND staff!

Humble apologies gents - email removed. It was meant to be humorous and definitely not offend.

I'll get my coat...

Yup, some guys are pretty rigid flying the book.
Screw fellow pilots looking for a ride, if the book don't give the blessings, the little guys are afraid of sticking their little necks out.
Uh, no FAR violations to risk, just running scared of them middle managers and a message in the mail-box inviting for a session on the carpet...

Had same experience with TWA many years ago.

If you think this site is solely for aircrew, you perhaps need to pay a little more attention then. Try our home page for instance ??

Air Traffic Controllers, Engineers, Cabin Crew, Operations, Crewing and Rostering staff are also welcome as well as anybody else with a connection or interest in professional aviation.

Whilst we on the ground, whatever the trade, are down here to assist you, if you think you can do it all on your own then please feel free to try. Love to see you have a go on honey truck duty for starters ;)

CB,

If in fact you are a 121 B-747 Capt, then surely you know the rules regarding the jumpseat.

It is a privilege, not a right.

While I agree that if you were refused the Captain could've been a little more diplomatic, if it happened like you said, there could've been other reasons for you being denied, such as weight, j/s all ready occupied, Capt on a line ck with a tough ck airman, or other reasons, and "not on the list" was just the easiest way to say no.

However, if your attitude in person is anything like that of your posts, I'm surprised all you got was a refusal.

Sounds like your ops people need to get on the stick and work on your j/s agreements.

By the way, cute little profile you've got there...marks you as a real professional in my opinion.
