The following is a link to a remarkably great photo, the link is at www.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!/open.file?id=144605. (http://www.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!/open.file?id=144605.) It is of an Honduran TAN Lockheed Electra on finals at Tegucigalpa in the late afternoon in May 1987. Does anyone know if the photo is an air to air or from a nearby hill with a long lens? You can really hear those four Alisons turning, cant you!

Good shot!! If it was an air to air, then methinks said photographer and his chariot were soon to find themselves upside down.
Cheers

Tom,
The photographer, William Decker, has a few more shots taken from the same vantage point, slightly inside the runway path. I wonder if he was perched on an approach light tower, an antic one might just get away with in Honduras?
cheers,

Thanks, Broadbreach, for the update and as for the photographer's likely perch atop an approach light tower, well I should have tried that two years ago at Juan Santamaria Airport, San Jose, Costa Rica. Might have been fun! Thanks, TTT.

Tom the Tenor,
The picture is believed to be taken from the old restaurant area. That has been subsequently removed some time after the picture was taken. It was apparently a nice view place for spectators and an extra obstacle for crew.
That is the approach to runway 01 which is the normal duty runway.
Approach from the opposite side ( runway 19 ) is a lot better as far as not having the steep app, but downdrafts on short final are quite usual.
The airport fence has been taken a few times
Photos of a 727 coming in at the same field are front (http://www.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!/open.file?id=134049) and rear (http://www.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!/open.file?id=141994)

To my untrained eye it looks like the Electra is trimmed nose-down. Is that usual?

Could be!, but he's nose-up

BFU - not sure you're right on that. Isn't that a servo trim tab?

Dunno mate! I've never handled anything heavier than a Duke which is why I asked. It just looks from the pic as if the trim is nose down which I would have thought was not so desirable for a landing. Does a servo trim tab move automatically (i.e. to compensate for AOA adjustments) and the pic just happened to catch that particular moment? I know I'm showing my ignorance here :)

Zeke, Would you happen to know the elevation and length of that runway 01/19 at Tegucigalpa? Just curious as the fore-shortening from the photo makes it look real short. Your links to the 727 photos are great. Love to find a field like that nearer home that would have such great views of landing traffic and the bonus of having a restaurant or bar - wow! Thanks, TTT.
