:rolleyes:Those nice people who run Norwich airport are closing a taxiway on the G/A side of the airfield. The official reason is to accomodate a new QRA helipad for the Police/Air Ambulance helicopter operator - we have no problem with that.
The real reason, (so my secret agent informs me), is so that the airport can lease the land for new car storage. :)
The taxiway closure will mean having to taxy aircraft with low prop clearance across a grass aircraft park, which although netted, is uneven and not suitable for the purpose.
Very soon there will be no light aircraft at Norwich, that being the case, the Airport Directors will have achieved 75% of their 5 year plan.
Watch out commercial users! I dare say that thre'll be need for a new B&Q on the terminal site soon!

So why donīt they re-open the norhtern taxiway. OK, it would mean that from the hangar 10 area you would have to hold at E1 to cross the 09 threshold, but so what. The couple of times Iīve done it, it has been a lot easier and quicker than going round by the terminal and fire station.
BTW, what is the position with Zero 9 thesedays, are they still trading?

Where exactly is the helipad going to be? top or bottom end of echo taxiway. If its top people can just come off runway 27 at delta and go round instead of cutting the grass with their propellers. I don't know why they need a QRA helipad anyway. People are only allowed to have a serious injury on a Friday as thats the only day the ambulance can run. Unfortunately it doesn't yet have the funding to run 24hours 7days etc. The air ambulance was supposed to be looked after by Sterling Helicopters in Hanger 14. They provide pilots and all the maintenance, they have the space to park the chopper outside, the only time they don't is when Bernie Matthews sticks his Citation there.
Zero 9 is now no longer, a few clubs have been and gone recently. Hanger 12 now consists of Anglian Air Centre (Zero 9's old planes), the Jet Provost Club and I think another club called Anglia Flight which runs a Pitts and a Yak.

Who is Anglia Flight? Anyone got any information, I know a few clubs have failed and I was wondering if Anglia Flight was a start up or a new kid on the block.
Happy times I have had at Norwich Airport, sad how things change.

FI,
I think that someone from Zero 9 before they closed down knew a few pilots who were prepared to bring their planes into Norwich to be used for instruction. The planes were an aerobatic Pitts S2A and a Yak 52. The club later put a notice in Pilot magazine advertising PPL/Night/Tailwheel/Aerobatics and Formation training. They were supposed to be based in Hangar 12.
The ad gave their website
www.anglia-flight.com (http://www.anglia-flight.com)
however this site is still under construction.
Although I haven't seen their planes around much and I don't know if they're still there. It may have disappeared due to Anglian Air Centre taking over Hanger 12, but I am only guessing
