Been 'asked' to fly to Ashgabat in Octobre. Anyone been there?
Hotels, Handling etc, any advice?

Sheraton hotel OK, manat is the money in front of the sheraton you have the market you can change a lot there, very good rate.
If you stay like a week you will repositionned to the "maintenance" side very interesting. But they have all the services. Catering from hotel though. As usual in these countries make sure the handling agent stays with you all the time around airport.
Good ATC, qnh and the like...
Taxis very cheap, negociate a daily rate to go around.
Very nice club/restaurant in front of the Sheraton, this is THE country for the carpets, there is one of the largest carpet at the carpet museum..do not forget to pay the licence for export...
If you have to go to turkmenbashi... well it is not the same story, twilight zone.....
Have fun...ha yes airdresser is open till midnight at the sheraton grand turkmen...

Have nothing to add to the previous post. All right, except the so called Sheraton is no longer a Sheraton. Been there around May 2007 and at this time it was no Sheraton any more. They just keep the name. Sounds better.
Rooms a little worn out. Otherwise a pretty good destination compared to most of the rest in this area.

So thats why I havent found it on the sheraton webpage...
Apparently the main issue right now is obtaining permission, which is only available through diplomatic channels acc. to our "permissionist".
Lets wait and see, anyway thanks guys.
