Hi Guys
recently a freind mentioned of an advert he saw in flight a few years ago:
loosley: after a couple, based in nice, one has to fly business jet, both have to be able to sail/entertain.
does this ring any bells with anyone?
i know it is a long shot but thought i might try and see if anyone has any leads
cheers

Most of the big yacht owners down here also own private jets and some of them prefer their aircrew to give a hand on the yacht rather than sit on their bums in a hotel for a few weeks. Some aircrew are happy to muck in as crew, others not. Bear in mind that if you accept doubling as crew you will probably be stuck in a pretty small shared cabin most of the time, and will work your butt off. Exceptions are the onboard helo pilots on some yachts, who generally get their own cabins and don't get roped into crew work.
All the pilots down here who do work on the boss's boat that I know of are actually ex-crew themselves. My former boss when I was his yacht skipper has offered me a job flying his plane because his former pilot didn't want to help out on the yacht any more. Another skipper friend of mine lucked in even more - his owner bought a plane and decided to make my mate his pilot too - so he is currently working towards his qualifications at his boss's expense.
But then another mate of mine realised that he was going to spend so much time down here with his boss's plane on the tarmac at Nice that he just bought his own boat and uses that as his base while he is down here. That's probably the best way to go if you like sailing.

Having an Excel rating and Day Skipper licence, something like that would totally suit me.

thanks for the replies guys. Aussie...yep, that original job probably is not around, but whoever took it may move on at some stage...and hence job comes up again...thought that was implicitly obvious.
nice idea to fly biz jets and have own boat in south of france...that's pretty similar to life now in hong kong, long haul, race own boat at weekends....just something that is dragging me towards big boats, small jets......though probably not the best career move.
let me know if the rumour mill comes up with any job openings of this nature.......
