Explorer v. Communicator

I'm having a bit of trouble with Explorer being able to interpret applets for some reason. Here's the skinny:
I have both Explorer and Communicator installed, whenever I try to use Explorer while an applet is running - all I get is something that resembles a .jpg image tag. I've noticed this problem in the WYSIWYG online editor that my web host uses and also in chat applications (that doesn't bother me so much, chat rooms give me the creeps) but I'd like to get Explorer to "see" the editing screen so I can get rid of Communicator. Any ideas or suggestions?

What versions? I have IE5.5 and Netscape 4.7 with all Java stuff enabled on both. Never seen this problem. What site are you visiting?

Bingo - those are the versions.
For instance - if I go to PPRuNe chat right now in Eplorer, I'll only get the image tag.
Any ideas?

Just tried it out on my system on both browsers. No problems at all.

If this doesn't happen in Communicator, use that for chat. IMO Netscape is "cleaner" than IE anyway. Not so many hidden bells and whistles to trip your system up.

Try re-installing IE5.5 That might sort things out unless it has always done it....

Try a different web-host (is that the same as what we call an ISP or Internet Service Provider here in UK?) on one of those "XYZ hours free online" deals and see if that makes a difference.

I'll skip the chatting (not my style anyway) and there are certainly worse things in life than having to switch browsers occassionaly. ;)
In answer to your question (super simplified): ISP plugs you into the web, a Web Host is a top level domain that parts out their space to site owners like yours truly.

Just visited your site. Nice piccys :)

Try uninstalling your web-host's WYSIWYG editor and maybe try either the editor supplied as part of the Netscape package or use Frontpage (the Express version comes bundled with Win 98). You'll need to upload/download and, although Netscape says it does that as well, I've not had much luck with it. Try WS_FTP LE available (I think) through www.tucows.com. (http://www.tucows.com.) It's cheap and cheerful, but it works for me. Maybe the editor is messing with your browser.

Sorry, all I can think of, unless, as I said earlier, your version of IE5.5 is corrupt in some way.....
