the US Navy had their weather data already on Sunday, so they decided to take the Carrier Battle Group out of the harbour a day early to weather the storm in open waters...
at that time HKO was still predicting that we'd be almost not affected ...

Looks like the US forecast was right on...must be due to using a calculator vice an abacus.

HK must have gotten there info from Shenzhen :8

Hong Kong Observatory relies on reading tea leaves and bear gallbladder..couldn't predict a piss up @ a brewery.

How many times do you show up at the aircraft outport and see !!!!ty forecast for HK, decide to take extra fuel only to arrive in CALM CAVOK WX??? And how many times do you see ZGSZ or VMMC forecasting !!!! wx and absolutely nothing out of the ordinary for HKG, only to arrive with CLK closed due to +TSRA SIG WS??? I personally lost count already about a year into the job....
