Did SQ send their ab initio pilots to the Philippines for flight training in the 70's?

I think that is correct.

There was a time too, in the early 70s when SQ ab initio pilots were trained by Singapore General Aviation Services (SGAS) at Seletar Airport. The Chief Flying Instructor was Jerry Lim. Anyone remember those days at SGAS, Seletar?
Also, the SQ B707 Navigators were trained there too. Any one remembers the good old days?

Lee, I heard that in the late 80's, SIA cadets moved from Seletar to Parafield, Australia because Malaysia did not allow SIA cadet training to be done in their airspace. Any truth in this? And why did Malaysia impose such restrictions? Was it for political or safety reasons?
Training wheels,
As I recollect, yes. There were a few incursions by SQ aircraft into Malaysian restricted airspace. The Malaysians accused the Singapore Govt (because SQ is Govt owned)of syping, but SQ said they were navigational errors (and of course the Cadet pilot was to blame). I'm not siding with the Malaysian authorities, but just trying to recollect the incidents then.
The SQ cadets are sent to Perth/Australia. It was not a very wise move by Malaysian government to stop training flights from Singapore as this is not encouraging the growth of GA at all, such a pity..... for so much space and so little flying...
