Received this last month...... more good news for all of you with P2X logbook time,... who want a pay rise, and some decent profit share.
==================

Dear Mr. XXXXX

Thank you for your email and interest in Emirates. We do credit Second Officer hours towards the 4000 Total hours as follows: 25% of SO time to a maximum of 500 hours.

In addition, in general we require pilots to be current as a First Officer within 12 months of joining Emirates.

Dick313.

I suspect he/she is implying that it is never too early to quit Cathay. If an injection of a few jet hours can pave the way to an EK job, then you needn't wait for your distant F/O upgrade to put your name in the hat for an EK job.

Furthermore, I believe that EK allows you to look ahead in terms of hours. As long as you have the required hours at the projected time of joining, they will still interview you when below the minimum requirements. Second hand info though.

The bottom line is that EK isn't attractive enough to make CX guys jump the fence. Not yet. The gate is open, everyone's peeking out and around, but nobody's making a run for it. Dubai is still an Arabian sandpit, while Hong Kong remains a heavily polluted Chinese SAR. Neither makes you want to build your home.

With that being said; if the latest rumors of EK basings should prove themeselves as fact, that situation changes, the scales might tip. A significant number of SO and FOs might find the Emirates basings quite enticing, as the prospect of a Cathay basing - once used to convince the wife and family to spend a limited period in smog and concrete - have been pulled away from under your feet and given to DEFOs who hold no intention of ever coming to Hong Kong. And even if they did....... they'll still be patiently waiting on base for the very guys they're blocking to upgrade ahead of them.

But maybe the glass isn't half-empty, and maybe I've got it all wrong and annual retirements + company expansion will free up the necessary space on the bases.

That is unless, of course, 3-man ULH plus 92-hour-a-month comes along and allows expansion without extra crews, and RA65 is introduced and takes care of retirement for the next 10 years. It would then be fairly reasonable to say that you're fu(ked.

And will probably need to read this...
