Why can only one airline, that being Bangkok Airways fly the route from Singapore to Koh-Samui in Thailand? This must be holding up the amount of tourist reaching the island.
Hotel Siera

because samui airport is privately owned by Bangkok airways and they will charge other airline ofr landing there tremendously.
THE EEL

so Bangkok Airways hold the landing rights to Samui airport, that really must be changed.

Eel, Hotel Siera has the answer. If you paved the private driveway to your house would you want either the local or neighbouring bus company to use it as a turning circle and to drop off their passengers? However Pelangi Airways do operate a service to K.L.
Details can be found at http://samui.sawadee.com/nav.php3
Size is quoted as 1800m.

The Thai owner of the airport owns all the land towards the sea end of the airport and will extend the runway to accommodate larger A/C within 2 years.
How the island will cope with more traffic is beyond me.
They have only recently completed the concrete ringroad and have insufficent rooms now to satisfy demands of tourism.
Anyone who wants to see Paradise before it gets screwed up, should go there ASAP.

Sirs,
having lived and still living on Samui i can tell you that there are more than anuff hotel and bungalow rooms on Samui to cater for at least a 50% increase in flights to the island. At mid season at least 50% of all rooms are empty for at least eight months of the year.
Its only BKK Airways that is holding up the rest, plus this airline is ripping off all tourist leaving the airport with an airport tax of Baht 500.I dont know how thw FAA let them get away with it.

Can someone please explain what the FAA has got to do with a 500 baht tax? I always thought those pretty little islands that I could look down at from my back yard were part of Thailand.
Anyway I seem to remember the tax (a government charge) as 200 baht, 300 baht "jet" surcharge, 500 baht International surcharge.
My wife once accussed me of being mean and avoiding the extra 300 baht by choosing to use the Short rather than the 737! My reason was I prefered the view over Phangna Bay at 3000 ft rather than at 30 odd thousand.

Eel,
you know that the minute you leave the ringroad you need a 4 wheel drive to get to most bungalows and you need a dunny guide to find a clean toilet if you leave your bungalow.
The infrastructure just isn't there to accommodate more tourists.

Guys (especially you EEL),
I posted a request for info on buying property in Thailand on another of the forums, but got no replies. Can any of you local experts give me some honest info on something I'm looking at in Koh Samui.
I'd really appreciate it...and I'll buy you a cold one next time I'm down that neck of the woods. Which, with the grace of God, won't be too long from now... ;)!
Please use the email address above to contact me if you can help.

I hope that the rules have changed.
My sister-in-law, a Thai National had to relinquish all property rights as soon as she married a "Foreigner" - i.e. my British brother.

Not true anymore. Marrying a farang does not affect a Thai national's property owning rights, and all Thais are now allowed dual citizenship as well.

Thats right and they can have credit from the bank as well.
But heres some breaking news from the island ........
Two days ago a Dutch 35 year old women was murded in Bang- Pang-Pol village and robbed of 2.8 millon Thai Baht arfter withdrawing the cash from the bank to pay for land. She was killed buy a falang friend.
so again The-EEL says be careful out there.
