Question for the well traveled.

Has any of you used Bangkok Airways on an ID 90? Do they generally take you on? Their flight out of HKG is very expensive - so I am considering using the dreaded staff travel benefit......:\

Thanks

So my master plan to go live in Koh Samui to escape HKG pollution just collapsed......

How about Thai - they have it seems 2 flights from BKK every day - anybody ever go that way?

With a letter from Cx they will require you to apply via the head office in Bangkok for an ID 50. This will be at the discretion of the port manager in HKG.
Will not work for a commute.

The Thai flight is a new flight, only started in Feb. They are accommodating, but in peak season can be tough. The other way is AirAsia to the mainland across from Koh Samui (not Sarutami ) then one hour ferry.

Firefly (Malaysian LCC) is worth a try out of PEN

TG or CX To Bangkok on ID 90 then Bangkok airways full fare to destination. Most tickets on Bangkok air within Thailand are about 3000 Baht for a return flight ($100 US).........................Alternatively why not try Hua Hin or Pattaya then you just have to get back and forth from HKG to BKK and with 35 flights a day it really ain't that hard..........................

Thanks for the suggestions. I like Koh Samui most - but it seems the hardest (most expensive) place to get to from HKG.

I have a feeling that if CX doesn't start to offer a 'commuting roster' (like CAL, Nippon, Korean , Asiana, JAL, Jet etc etc ) for all the guys stuck in HKG due unavailability of bases then living in Thailand while being based in HKG will become more and more popular.

Thai visa could be a issue though.
