Hi,

How long does an airline pilot work in a day ?

Recently, I watch on CNA regarding pilot's fatigue. This particular pilot had work for almost 19hrs and in the end he took a short nap and the plane crash during its approach. But that was 7yrs ago. Anyway, there is another pilot who reported, that he was tired and didn't think he could fly that particular day due the long hours he had been working on that day and was drop for 3mths because he said that. He was asked to sign another agreement which said, if he ever said that again he WILL be fired. In the rules written by FAA, it says pilots can fly up to 19hrs.

What about Asian carriers particularly SQ ? Are there any SQ pilots or other Pilots in Asia who managed to take a short nap while being in control of the aircraft during approaches, etc?

That should be all for now ...

Any information given will be greatly appreciated.

All information given will be strictly confidential.

THANK YOU

Best Regards,
Herman

Hermie,
The maximum scheduled flying duty period for a 2 pilot crew in SIA, when acclimatised to local time is 12.5 hrs. But this depends on the local start time and number of sectors. There is also a maximum stick time. For 3 pilot crews, the max scheduled flying duty period is 14 hrs for 1 sector. Augmented crews have 14.5 hrs max and double crews have 17.5 hrs.

:D

Sunny,

Thank You !

Well, that's not too bad ! Or is it bad ?

From my inexperience point of view 12.5hrs seems quite acceptable on a certain number of sectors. Say for example: SIN-KUL, SIN-CGK, ETC.

As for 3 pilot crews, augmented crews and double crews it looks all reasonable. So as for the double crews does that mean 17.5hrs on each crew ?

Thanks once again ... !
