View Full Version : Will Oasis demise come to Cathay's rescue

Will the many fully trained 744 pilots now 'on the market' from Oasis be offered positions in CX, thereby partially solving the non - existent crewing crisis?

I hope they do because I need to feed my family.

Any pilot who has had the pleasure of working for Oasis, working alongside some of the finest individuals in the aviation industry, would need his head examining if he even considered CX as an option!! Its akin to 'chalk and cheese' Oasis HK Airlines has reintroduced the concept of enjoying your chosen occupation, treating people fairly and with respect, and most of all enjoying yourself. None of these can, or ever will, be found at Crappy Pathetic!!!

LarryDCableGuy

FAMILY comes first, I am not going to starve my family just because CX is Crappy Pathetic. Your " concept of enjoying your chosen occupation, treating people fairly and with respect, and most of all enjoying yourself" is not going to feed my family so maybe your head needs some examining. :=

since quite a few of the "Happy Oasis" Chappies came from CX and also Dragonair there must be some doubt as to wether they would be welcomed back with open arms, still no harm trying....................

Of course you can always try Korean or Air china, TNT or such, see how happy that makes everyone...................

CX has one thing that shines out above all else...................

the money hits the bank on the due date every month.....................now, that certainly makes me a happy, smiley chappie

Quite right, Size Matters. CX at least pays a monthly salary (and a better one than the large majority of competitors). Oasis was not able to sustain itself beyond even the very short term.

But I suspect we will now go into full blown airline James Dean syndrome.
Oasis will become the best employer in history...remembered almost as fondly as Peter Sutch and the times when CX was "just like a family".

Anyway, back to the golf course.

They can come back..............to the bottom of the list.

They made their beds, now they can sleep in them.

Hard but true.

Gary and Larry, and the rest:

Welcome back, if this is the life ring you need. It will keep you afloat, but won't feed you or keep you comfortable!

I've seen some good guys go to Oasis and I'm sad that it didn't workout for you. I wish you the best of luck in your NEXT job.

Sizematters,

"the money hits the bank on the due date every month.."

And thats just about the only positive thing to mentiong about the outfit - how sad - but how true! :ok:

ACMS;

I doubt anyone of them will be willing to come back to CX. Especially now - where they have realized how fun and enjoyable it can be to fly and go to work and not "just" look at a stupid bank account.

Oasis boyz - I wish you all the best - but for god sake stay clear of CX (as if you did not already know).

As the reason they left CX was probably to get away from their "problems with CX" then I doubt many will want to return. However they do need to put food on their tables so we shall see.

Some we don't need back.

Sorry but it's true.

People in glass houses, shouldn't play twister in the nude!

If everybody at CX loves you ACMS and you don't have any problems. Then you have nothing to worry about - do you.

In the sim with one of the 3rd floor managers yesterday..his comment as to if CX would take the Oasis boys was that they would be welcome back but on the CX Freighters based out of Hong kong...

Good luck guys

sincere condolences lads..really.
I'm wondering how many will come back considering the reasons they left in the first place...
does this mean we now have A,B,C and 'O' SCALES

BA needs 747/777 pilots this year for any of you with Euro passports and JAA licences.

We are at war with the company at the minute but will have them straightened out by the end of the summer.

Great gig when things are going well.

Where's "The Management" with his tongue-in-cheek reality check? How do we know that Cathay won't actively recruit from Oasis, even to the Left Seat on the freighter? Nothing surprises me anymore....See DFO's update.

Well I still have a job, loved here or otherwise.

I could have chosen to dump CX and run to Oasis to seek better greeer pastures. But I didn't.................

Why should we take back those that thumbed their noses at us? ( both in Pprune and in person )

Any Oasis Captain didn't need CX, that's why they took the "risk" and left.
Some S/O's and F/O's wanted a trouble free quick upgrade, fair enough but their GAMBLE failed, sorry to see it but holy crap Batman what do you want us to do about it?

They knew the considerable risks involved and still chose to leave CX for a quick promotion, they should have stayed.

They can come back to CX/KA..........but at the bottom.

Some wont want to come back and will seek other jobs at EK ( for eg )
And good luck to them, they didn't like CX before so they probably are doing the right thing.

Such is life..............

ACMS you say " such is life " ... just like there is A scale and B scale.."such is life"

Hope all the Oasis pilots go on to find decent jobs.

ACMS
13th April 2008, 04:18
We didn't force them out did we.......

I too hate to see an Airline fold and people out of a job, but I've been there and done that twice before. These things happen and anyone that left a profitable Legacy Carrier to join an upstart like Oasis did so knowing it came with HUGE risks.

I hope they get good jobs, hopefully some will come back to CX at the bottom of our list.

Dictionary definition risk: chance of disaster or loss, act inspite of the possibilty of injury or loss

Some may well have needed to look that up.

It'll sure solve CX's 'flying beyond 55' dilemna albeit temporarily. Goodbye all you extendees!!

ACMS
14th April 2008, 04:13
explain how it solves Cx's problem exactly?

Apple Tree Yard
14th April 2008, 06:11
Jagman, you are an idiot.

Exactly how will this change CX's need to retain the experience and C&T's that triggered the crisis in the first place?

Arfur Dent
14th April 2008, 06:54
Well, sorry for being an idiot. How charming as part of a reasoned discussion!
I agree with the fact that CX must keep on C&T staff but there are many pilots coming up to 55 who are not C&T. Surely, if 100+ pilots are employed direct from Oasis on to the freighter it will ease the load considerably on the pax fleet.
I hope I'm wrong but, logically, an influx of so many pilots joining at the bottom of the seniority (and pay) scale must be like manner from heaven for CX. Even NR seemed to be licking his lips.

trevfly
14th April 2008, 07:43
looks official, CX to employ as many Oasis pilots as are deemed suitable.

They are happy guys and better off than Freighter guys still stuck in UK

14th April 2008, 08:07

Fly747
14th April 2008, 17:40
Mr Li will have to hurry up. Once the numbers of Dragonair pilots moving across to CX Fr8 is known this friday then they will know how many more vacancies there are. Oasis is worth nothing without the pilots ready to immediately recommence services. CX may be surprised by how many want to go to them of course, we'll soon see.

jonathon68
15th April 2008, 03:39
Maximum age is 61 for the ex-Oasis guys.

Sounds like a single entry date to CX in order of Oasis seniority, all on the applicable CoS 08 (with RA65, so no bypass pay).

All as F/O's, with some rapid Commands subject to the usual lack of interest from more senior pilots for the vacancies.

I have also heard that the assessment will be as simple as an interview and medical for "known quantities", and more for others. Needless to say some guys will need to look elsewhere for their next job.

Good luck

punkalouver
16th April 2008, 11:37
How many guys left CX for Oasis? What positions at CX?

Numero Crunchero
16th April 2008, 15:57
Extensions past 55
CX is preparing for the eventuality of RA65. Part of that preparation is ensuring all pilots are offered employment post 55. If it happens to be on the freighter and you turn it down you can't very well sue them for discrimination...they offered you a job. This has been the case for at least 18months.

So don't assume Oasis will have any effect on those offers for extension. As there is no legislation in place CX can 'cherry pick' by only offering B scales to C+Ters and freighter scales to the rest.

ACMS,
I think many lack your enthusiasm for flying for the brush off airline. Unlike you I don't think those that went to Oasis, or any other employment, did it because of the financial rewards. I think it is mostly about honour, integrity, character and determining where your personal 'line in the sand' is for money versus job satisfaction. So yes you are very clever for staying with CX - and obviously the financial rewards of doing so are more important to you than to many others. Just because your monetary motive is stronger than most doesn't mean you should denigrate those who value job satisfaction, respect and esprit de corps more than the almighty CX dollar.

I wish the ex Oasis personnel luck in finding similar employment...employment where the main argument for working there isn't about how many houses you can buy in 15 years but how much respect you get for doing your job.

Firstly, my best wishes and God's Speed to those of you effected by this collapse.

It does make me wonder if the top of the aviation cycle has passed?

Aloha, Oasis collapsed. Ryan Air, Easy Jet, Virgin Blue, Jet Blue all signaling significant profit drops. American economy still struggling with big industrial companies signaling profit drops. UK economy on a slow down.

The likes of these LCC's grew out of a "new market" it's that market that is first effected when things get tough.

Pilot shortage? ...I think not for too much longer. Is it time to put some money away for the storm on the horizon?

Apple Tree Yard
18th April 2008, 23:00
I believe that there are approximately 140 pilots at Oasis. At best, CX will pick up half of those. That equates to about the number that retired/resigned last year. The collapse of Oasis will put off the crewing crisis at CX for at best 1 year/ 18 months. Most of the Captains at Oasis were over 55, and very few will join Cathay. Emirates, the Aussie airlines and many others around the world are desperately competing for pilots. Cathay will still be scrambling to crew the aircraft for a long while yet. Incidentally, the main problem in CX is the training capacity. Not much will help that situation for quite some time....

To all those many kind people, many thanks indeed for your great comments and support over this last week during our Oasis "capitulation".
It was, indeed, very heartening to read your comments on this forum about Oasis, which, taking other issues, lets be honest, can be a little fraught and contentious at times.
Fragrant Harbour guys are tops, thank you all.
Just hope I can fly again soon.
