Hi there,

This problem has been bugging me ever since I found out that I meet all requirements and hours to convert my CASA licence to the CAD licence EXCEPT for the requirement of night flying, it requires the applicant to have done at least 2 cross country flights but I have only done 1 (sort of).

I would greatly appreciate if any pilots here can give me some advice since CASA and CAD aren't being of much help. I've rung the CAD several time and they told me to write to them to seek an official clarification. I've done it and it has been a while now and still no news.

Ok,

One of their requirements for the conversion is to have successfully complete two night cross country flights as PIC or PIC US or SPIC terminating at an aerodrome a minimum distance of 65nm from the point of departure.

On the 20th of October 2006, I have conducted a flight down from Archerfield to Lismore at night in a Beech Duchess, I have landed at Lismore for dinner and refueling. Lismore is roughly around 130nm away from my point of departure - Archerfield. Around 1 - 2 hours later I flew back from Lismore to Archerfield with Lismore as my original point of departure this time, which Archerfield is also roughly around 130nm away from Lismore, my point of departure. This is also reflected on my flight plan being submitted to Air Services Australia and Search and Rescue Services (SAR).

To my experience, this will count as two separate cross country flights. But unfortunately I have entered these two flights as one entry in my log-book such as YBAF- YLIS - YBAF. I'm working hard with the Aussie side to retrieve my flight plan with them to prove that I did landed at Lismore that night.

So what do you guys think?

I already left Australia for good so am trying to avoid spending 6k HKD on a return ticket just to complete my "remaining" cross country flight.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Best regards :)

Dude, sounds like you really have your work cut out for you, just going on friends/colleagues ( and self ) who have recently changed their licence over from CASA ATPL to HK ATPL.
I was under the understanding we only have a " validation " , which can only be held whilst we are employed here? ie we leave our job in HK and we lose HK licence.
Also some of the guys with lower experience ( talking a few thousand hours T/prop ) had to do more exams than those of us with jet experience, they were only given CPLs inspite of the fact they had Oz ATPLs. Those guys did 8 exams I think.
It sounds like you are fairly low on experience? why do you want a HK CPL.
Good luck :ok:

Hongkongfooey,

I am offered for an interview with a local operator but they need me to find out whether I meet the requirements for the conversion before the interview,

the minimum requirement for the position is to meet the minimum requirement for the conversion.

I've notified the company on my situation and all they said was to contact CAD -_-
