On a slightly different subject, does anyone know/understand the tax implications and breaks for uniforms, noise cancelling headsets and travel etc within the UK ?
http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/manuals/eimanual/EIM50059.htm
I see on the HM R&C website there are several breaks that are avialable and I'm sure these pretty handy for freelance (self employed) guys, but can they be used by someone on PAYE to lower your tax code, if so how do you go about it ? ... For instance we get a uniform but still have to pay for our own shirts, might want a noise cancelling headset etc.
Any of you guys or girls use any of these benefits

Edited for clarity and link

ANR headsets can be allowed as a capital expenditure if your company does not provide any.

Cheers Mike ... Link Changed.
OK ... so I take it if you do a tax return as a freelancer or for other business reasons when already on PAYE you just add the FRE's to it. And as for the note regarding uniforms you can claim upto the (£850) whole amount for taking your uniform to the dry cleaners and getting a receipt :\
I do actually need to do an E-Tax return for the first time for other (business) reasons but this is a first for me so please excuse my ignorance.

Cheers Mike, I'll give it go....and see if they can back date a few years expenses as well:ooh:
I was going to use an accountant this year as I have a buy to let property which I am probably entitled to claim many other expenses for than I currently do:ugh:
For 07/08 I will use an accountant just to see what they can save me.
Cheers:ok:
