Goudie, I've found Skype very useful indeed. I can't say I have too many problems with it. What's been really handy is the video part. Running a Mac here, trying to get to video conference with the Microsoft world has been a pointless, wasted exercise. On Skype, however, no trouble at all.
I've been running Skype in its various forms for years and in general it's a nice thing. As long as you're happy that you could be eavesdropped on... it's completely insecure.

I have only used Skype voice, rather than video, but I have had no problem with connections or quality.
Are you using a home wifi link, by any chance?

I regularly use Skype Video and it's very good.
Won't work over dial up - you definitely need broadband. As was said above, slow wi-fi unlikely to be reliable either - make sure you're on a fast / wired connection.

Thanks for tips. I'm with NTL BB, don't have wfi. A friend had similar problems connecting to Boston so suspect it could be the US isp

Yes, unfortunately there is no real support for QoS (quality of service) over the internet, so it really is a "weakest link" scenario.

I use in UAE, UAE and UK, over Xmas perfect service.
I do also use VoipStunt, as my primary VOIP, ,ans skpye for business calls, as most in the Co use Skype when overseas.
