Amman, 19 Nov. (AKI) - The Jordanian government has launched the sale of a 71 percent stake in the country's national carrier in a move to privatise the airline.

About 59.91 million shares in the Amman-based carrier are expected to be sold in a bid to raise 288 million dollars in an initial public offering.

The Jordanian carrier, whose fleet is composed of 25 aircraft of various types, has plans to acquire another 25 airplanes in the next three years.

Several sources have said that Amman intended to offer the shares in the markets of the Persian Gulf, in Europe, with the banks and Jordanian entrepreneurs.

A delegation of the company's senior executives and potential investors will conduct a promotional tour through Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Beirut, Doha, Bahrain, Kuwait and Frankfurt.

At the same time, the Jordanian government has reached agreement with a financial coalition including the Nour Company for Financial Investment and the Abu Dhabi Investment Company for the development and enlargement of Amman's international airport, a project valued at 680 million dollars.

Any thoughts as to how well suited RJ is towards privatization (by that I mean, can it run profitably and without Government intervention)?
