Banking in Dubai

I'm directing this mainly to the Yanks.....What is the best way to bank at Ek? I am especially interested in keeping my accounts funded State-side.

Any suggestions? I'm joining in Nov

Not possible. EK pays in local currency to local banks only. You will have to open an account here and wire it over every month.

EPC members get one free xfer from Mashreqbank per month.

If you go with Lloyds TSB, you can have an offshore account in the Isle of Man or, I think, the Channel Islands. With this, you can have US$, £UK and Euro accounts.
You also get 1 or 2 free transfers per month.
Not sure how you would (cheaply) get the money from the $ account to the US but give them a call.

I would stick with someone like Lloyds.I have been with Mashreq for years and have had all sorts of hassles.Be very careful with any Dubai bank with respect to credit card insurance to cover for credit card fraud.Banks like Mashreq have no cover in the event of fraud on your card and you will be totally liable.We have had many cases of EK pilots having to pay large sums to Mashreq.What they do to help is any time I use my credit card downroute you will recieve a call from Dubai to confirm that you have used it.This is good and bad I suppose.Mainly good for Etisalat.

HSBC also offer offshore accounts in pounds, euros and dollars.

All the banks in Dubai are rubbish to varying degrees. Lloyds TSB appears to be one of the least rubbish.

Need some help on which bank to go for in Dubai. I checked up a few bank's website but not getting any closer to deciding. Just want a reliable bank which has internet banking and also provide remittance services.. :confused:

I have had HSBC since joining EK and have been very pleased with their services and products offered. I get one free transfer per month to the states, free credit cards, free internet banking, and the ability to get someone on the phone 24/7 when I have a problem. The also have one month time deposits currently yielding 4.2%. In addition they have banks world wide and I can use their ATM's for no fee, which I did in NYC just the other day......

As an American I would stick with HSBC, Lloyds might be good for those in Europe or UK, but I've heard some hassles with them as well.

You can drive up to the HSBC Jebel Ali branch and it's a nice option. You will pay the Salik but at least you can avoid the nightmare in Deira and most everything now is done on-line anyway so the drive to the branch should be a rarity. Customer service in is India somewhere but it's 24/7.
