Lancaster overhead Bury, Lancs

Hi, Just thought i would share this with you.

Sat in the back garden earlier this afternoon, Mrs TFC shouts from within, "Eh, have you seen that plane coming over?" So i listen and hear the mighty growl of the Merlins. Seconds later there she is, low enough for me to have to look down to see her.

Very majestic indeed, not seen her for a few years, since i was at Coningsby.
Any ideas why she was up this neck of the woods?

You've got a steam railway near you that was having a WWII re-enactment day - the Lanc flew through to kick it off.

Apparently it was over the cricket ground at Headingley yesterday and was on it's way to Blackpool, and onto the Centenary of the Isle of Man TT today.

BBMF website suggests that the Lanc was at the East Lancashire Railway, which is holding a 1940s Wartime Weekend over the bank holiday (and which will probably draw more crowds than 'Spirit of Adventure'...).

The BBMF website says that the Lanc will be there again tomorrow, and accompanied by a Spit and Hurricane on Monday.

many thanks. i didnt even think to check the bbmf website.
as i said it took me completely by surprise when she roared past.
think i may have to have a wander up there tomorrow. shame there are no times posted for the flypast.

in fact i will pop up there on monday to see the 3 of them in full glory. thanks for the heads up chaps, would have missed it otherwise and still been in a state of shock as to why this majestic beast took to flying past my rather humble abode.

ok, for all you navigators out there...

"The Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, featuring a Lancaster, Spitfire and Hurricane, will give a display over Douglas Bay from 1pm on Saturday May 26.

The aircraft fly in from Blackpool and the performance lasts for 15 to 20 minutes before they depart for another engagement in Lancashire."

Im assuming my house is the 'another engagement in Lancashire.' What time do you calculate it will arrive? Answer closest to the actual time when it comes will be awarded some form of prize.

Ahem, in keeping with the theme of the East Lancs Railway w/end, as the Lanc will be oveflying Bury and Rochdale, a one-off demonstration of it's orginal role and purpose ( preferably on both, but either would suffice ) would not go amiss......... :E

Indeed it was over for the TT. I don't suppose the irony is lost that a good numberof our visitors are German.............

Fine display over Douglas bay. Though not as good when a dear friend of mine was on the team, and treated me to a flypast of the trio over the top of the house.

I'm not sure if its true, but some years ago I heard about when enquiries were made of the CAA about the Canadian Lanc coming here for the D-Day 50 celebrations, they squashed the idea flat citing safety grounds.
