Hi!. .. .Well, I've been playing with the idea of maybe trying to land a corporate job lately, and I need some input and ideas... <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="smile.gif" /> . . I've heard that most corporate jobs are filled by knocking on doors and meeting up in person, rather than sending out resumes in responds to job openings. Is this true? and do anyone have any success stories (how you did it basically)?

RG, I obtained the corporate position I had by word of mouth. A co-worker/pilot at a hospital where I flew part time told me that Mr. XXX had purchased a Learjet and needed a pilot. . .. .I contacted Mr. XXX by telephone and arranged an interview, though very informal at one of his cattle ranches. I was in suit/tie, he was in ranch clothes.. .. .As Mr. XXX has been a pilot since WWII, we ended up "hangar flying" for about two hours and I got the job. I had a wonderful time, but we decided we wanted to live in Europe for a few years. Mr. XXX and Mrs. XXX and I still correspond.. .. .I would agree, most corporate flying positions are through word of mouth. This probably applies to most flying positions outside of the major airlines, and even then an intro helps.. .. .Having said that, pilots still get hired by submitting resumes. I feel that it is always best to follow up on resumes with a phone call. You can even include in your "cover letter" that you will telephone to follow up on your resume.. .. .Just my humble thoughts.

Thanks Check 6!. . I would imagine it's a fine line between knocking on doors and not coming off as annoying or too persistant.
