Family accomodation

Hey everyone, can someone help me? To get family accomodation do you have to be married or is it enough to be living together with a child?? I have tried to find out from literature but no luck yet.

There has been a thread on this before, If you look at page 6 of the threads and read the one marked Excess Married Quarters there should be a few pointers, but speaking from experience I have had I would not hold your breath. Rules are Rules etc.....:ugh:

Believe it's a bit of a grey area. I know of one case a few years ago where a bloke was given a married quarter so he could have his kids for the weekend after the marriage failed. However, there were quarters standing empty in that case. Anybody's guess who's entitled to what these days.

If you are seperated from your partner and have custody of your kids you are entitled to a married quarter. Your admin staff should be able to help...or not as the case may be.:ugh:

If you are married or same sex civil partnership status then you are entitled to SFA. If you have children from a previous relationship with custody rights then you are also entitled to SFA. If however, you have children with a hetero-sexual partner (in a current relationship) then you are not entitled to SFA.
I know it's a cake and arse state of affairs as I went through the whole rigmarole over the last two years and it matters not a jot if your relationship with a person of differing gender is as permanent as can be with numerous children and mortgages together.

It's my understanding that you are 'eligible but not 'entitled' to a quarter. i.e. You can apply for a surplus quarter but there will be a 90-day eviction clause factored in, if someone 'entitled' comes along.

Having had a quarter as 'non-entitled' the notice period I was told would apply was only 30 days, not 90. I had to sign a document agreeing to that rule. I never got an answer to my question as to wether I would have to pay for that move myself if I was 'evicted' for a more eligible family.

I think a lot depends on your circumstances. I guy on my unit is single and lives in a MQ. However, he has a dependant child who is at Boarding school and so he gets around it that way.
