Guys,

what are your thoughts of the "new" opportunity for Captains to jump ships? Would you do it? Would you not? Please donīt bring up the FO-upgrade/DEC issue again, just personal opinions of the proīs and conīs please. And no, Iīm not a DEC...just interested about your opinion.

Bit late me old sausage, take a look at the:

'What's the opinion on the EK 777 fleet transfers? (The Angelo & Felipe thread)'

Buddy, Iīm not late. I am not interested in DEC ranting or upgrade issues, I am interested in consequences for skippers. Since Angelo and Felipe seem to be FOīs, I donīt think this thread is of great use for me. Capisce?

Iīm absolutely sure that Iīm not an (American) DEC, especially not this c:mad: nt BM  . I did my command here after the usual time and I have my opinion on EKīs DEC-policy. I donīt need anybody to tell me if I like Airbus or Boeing. No, I just wanted to hear some opinions, thatīs all. I like my Airbus, but I donīt like the route structure and the ever worse layovers. I would love to have the nice layovers they have on the Boeings, but I heard a lot of bad stories about the "dark side". Since I believe that in the long run it will be only 380 and 777 in EK, I think itīs only fair to gather some thoughts about it, no politics, no hidden thoughts, that easy.

Please donīt jump into any conclusions, my name is White Sausage for a reason, not welsh or anything else... :8

If you want to have some opinions on both fleets, fair enough. It is a bit useless though, we both know that route structures and layovers can change overnight, and like you say, the A330 wil eventually go, and so wil the A340, so what are you going to sign up for??

Here's some of my thoughts though:

Airbus more comforable than Boeing, you WILL mis that litle table for your meal and laptop..

Boeing more flexible than Airbus: from day 1, you will fly every aircraft on a fleet that will be over 80 Boeings. On the Airbus however, you will initially restricted to 29 A330's, and once you make the A340, you can'tt swap with people who are only on A330 again. So in order to plan your personal social events, it's probably better on the Boeing.

Routes.. For now, Boeing has some ridiculous flights compared to A340. DXB-BKK-SYD-AKL-SYD-BKK-DXB, you'll be away for about 9 days, but only for just a few hours more than the SYD return flight we have on Airbus. Rumours are that Boeing will take these flights though..

Actually, can't figure out why I'm taking the effort to writre this, things will change, you never know what you get into...

Try to see it from a totally different perspective:
There are only two groups of pilots.....
namely those who'd love to be flying Boeings and those who already do!
Simple, isn't it?

Cheers!

You may as well pick which colour you prefer, AB blue or boeing brown, because that will be the only predictable constant. :)

Guys,
I guess you are right. Who knows what EK will do tomorrow... Only the change is constant. Thanks anyway for your comments!

It's very simple why the move across gents? To make ones self as marketable as possible. With a couple of thousand hours command under the belt on the bus, it is now time to get at least 1000 command hours on the boeing. Why else? Use the system to your favour.

That's it! Nothing more, nothing less! If it's on offer? take it!

What would have made life more interesting would have been if the situation was the other way around:

Boeing-Airbus............:confused: Any takers? :=

The only good rating is your last and current one.
If you go Boeing ,after a year you probably wont get an Airbus job, and till you get about 1500hrs or more on type you wont get a Boeing job either.
Why does everybody want to leave Emirates...................

not everyone wants to leave

I would go, but the lobotomy would hurt and I would miss the only important thing in contemporary airliner design, the table

Could you please confirm :

If an (3-4 years in EK) Airbus FO goes for the T7, his seniority will be set back to 0 in his bidding group during the 6 months he has to fly as an FO? Behind all new joiners???

After any upgrade is the seniority changed back to 0 (in bidding group), even after all DEC's who joined 3 years later???
:bored:

When Gf ditched the USA numbers and DOJ seniority system in 1976 and replaced it with Fleet seniority and never paid bypass pay... things steadily became a right old mess for the pilots and it caused resignations and I would not be suprised if they do not continue today because of a stuffed up seniority system.
When a twenty year Captain can be outbid by one with only two years or less in command for his annual leave dates, days off, and trips, this also causes ill feeling.
Basically if you want unhappy pilots mess with the numbers and DOJ seniority and also throw in a seperate National pilot seniority system to outbid everyone as a killer blow.

EK actually did away with seniority back in 1995, when GJ (then GM Flt Ops) declared that in no way seniority would take precedence to fill up positions within the company !!

Seniority only works when you are in a line waiting for your boarding pass, using a standby ticket. It is the only time staff number will count :-))

And that only works against a ticket of the same priorty code.....not nice to find a non aircrew reservation staff member with one years company service or even someone with no company time at all but employed by a competitor airline has a higher ticket priority than your twenty years of company line flying.
