With regard to the title of this thread could I ask if any of you have experienced problems with regards to children from a previous marriage? Are step-children recognised by your various HR departments (yup the guys who wield the power) ? Are they entitled to the benefits stated in your contract?
It seems that one of the excluded ME carriers in the title line does just that and discriminates accordingly. There were promises made which were subsequently withdrawn (the ever present empty promise).
My concern is that if there is a gulfwide policy regarding this, fair enough, but if not then attention should be drawn to the fact that you will be behind the drag curve with respect to your potential package because you married someone with a child. It's a caveat to those who may be in a similar situation-no fine print covers this by the way.
Any info greatly appreciated and may be paid for in camels.

Not sure I qualify as venerable, not quite that sycophantic.
EK allows: Spouse, Father, Mother, Kids, Siblings and In-laws for full concessions.

For Grandparents, Grandkids, Nephews, Nieces and Steps (all categories) they give Wider Eligibility tickets when available.

They are if you make them legally a part of your family and adopt them; until that time they are another man's children in law. Its the same as no recognition for boyfriends/girlfriends in the Middle East. They are not recognised in law because you are not allowed to dabble outside of wedlock.

As to a Gulfwide policy, what are you on? They do not have a Gulfwide policy with regards to Defence, Money, Palestine et al. I think it will be a while before you manage to convince a bunch of different companies from different nations to harmonise their staff travel rules.

Just wanted to check the other carriers policies on "steps". I know that it represents a shari'a law problem and as for changing policy--not even a remote consideration on my part, I'm done bruising the cranium.!
Our ability to learn from mistakes they say set us apart from the monkeys! (yeah right!)

The purpose I suppose, would just be to provide a heads up to those expats cosidering a move to this part of the world who have children from previous marriages.
