Hello guys,

Does anyone knows if it is possible to hold a mechanical as well as an avionics licence as a licensed aircraft maintenance engineer? If so, there would be additional licence allowances.

Or one normally specialises in either mechanical or avionics trade?

Thanks for any feedback.

Regards,
Gp

I hold both avionic and mechanical licences and have done the type courses for both but dont recieve any extra payment so I only use my avionic cover because thats what they originaly employed me as and until they pay me for the mechanical licence and types I refuse to use it.

Yes you can hold both mechanical and avionic licences and there are a lot of us that do. Airlines and operators tend to cap their staff's licence payments it is therefore only to their advantage that you have all trades on your licence.

The FAA have been issuing licences that allows you to sign out the entire aircraft, except some CAT critical systems, as soon as mechanics pass their A&P licence and a 40hr familiarisation course on the aircraft.

under each license system around the world is it easier for a avionic guy to obtain a mechanical license do you think or is it the other way around. dont under the easa system dont the b2 guys do the b1 and b2 course for an aircraft type course and the b1 guys only do the b1??
