Hello all!
I've some how missed out on all forms of aviation guidance,a forum like this is great for ppl like me .I've wanted to do my flying for a while now,but instead im going into to my IInd year of engg (thnks to my parents).I came across an advertisement by jet airways in one of the local newspapers . It read - "....we are also inviting applications from candidates who have cleared all DGCA papers and have a valid class 1 medical." and u have to be an Indian national.

I'm a Malaysian national holding a PIO card but ive studied in India all my life, whch means my chances with any malaysian carrier have diminished because fluency in Bahasa Malaysia is compulsory.

My Querries:

1. Will it make more sense for me to get my degree and then enroll with a flying school, or will it be a little too late then?

2.Will any of the cadet-pilot programs in India happen, for a PIO card holder?

3. Last but not least I've been a regular nicotine user from early high school and a decent basketball player with regular exercise routines so guess im pretty fit .Will the ciggies pose a problem of some sort with the class 1 medical?

BOOM!!

Interviewer: "So Frank, you have long hair. Does that make you a woman?"
Frank Zappa: "You have a wooden leg. Does that make you a table?"

Degree is not a condition but it always help to have a backup in case after flying 1000 Hrs you are found medically unfit to fly? What would you do? You have lot of time, at least 3/4 years for sure!

2.Will any of the cadet-pilot programs in India happen, for a PIO card holder?

Three is no cadet program specially for PIO but you can try as PIO. Only condition is you clear all your Indian DGCA papers.

Nobody cares what you drink or smoke. If ECG goes well and you clear Class 1, your are fit! If not, make yourself fit!

Good Luck

p.s I hope you would ask all your question through this thread only, instead of having a new thread for more quires ! Thanks!

A few facts.
There are a lot of indian nationals under training , much more starting training in the coming years. With so many in house choices I see no reason why an airline would take the strain to get the work permit for a PIO Card holder and the attached formalities. (Correct me if im wrong) and very remote chance for giving cadetship for a foreign national. FYI.. cadet ships are not sponsorship nor are they guaranteed jobs - you sc** up you are out

It makes a lot of sense.. Let me tell something ..(Again seniors pardon me if im talking nonsense)
As soon as you get into a college for degree (3-4 yrs min)
1) Start clearing DGCA CPL papers
2) Fly as much as you can and accumulate the hours
3) Try to learn Bahasa malaysia
At the end of the term , you will have a Degree , A CPL (if fast and lucky ) , Bahasa malaysia qualification. What more do you need!! Also you can watch the industry till it stabilizes.

Hi!
Have a look and check if you can convert your PIO to OCI?

It depends, for what , where and when you use them! I guess for you, at present, it does not really matter! Study first!

Good Luck and let us know how you go!
