Air Marshal P.S. Ahluwalia has reported that IAF pilots would be sent to Air India on deputation for a 5 year period to tide over the acute shortage faced by the govt run airline.
Most of these flyers would have a minimum 2000 hrs of jet experience. So where does that leave entery level CPL hopefuls? And what about AI's selecting 300 graduates for ab-initio training through to induction program as announced recently?

No phantasms,
I have been teaching with former Indian air Force Navigators and Pilots. They have a very good level compared to the basic ICAO/FAA one, and I do not think they will have any problem to attend and pass CPL+ IR +ATPL. More, IAF instructors are staffing several school overseas. The real issue is a bridging course for compensation of the professionnal cultural difference between civil aviation and military (MCC, CRM, more Instruments Flying). It is a month training which can be merged with a type rating, not a big deal, but has to be done.
IA is a major and experienced airline. I suppose they are already preparing something, IF YOUR INFORMATION is true (which has to be checked)

The airline mentioned by me and as stated in the article that appeared in the Asian Age newspaper (please verify) is AI & not IA.

Aeronotix,
It is unlikely that the numbers coming in from the IAF will be so large that they would eat into the job prospects of CPLs. So rest easy, and I suggest don't view it as a 'us' or 'them' situation. In fact, my understanding is that the IAF is being asked to provide pilots because the civil market is suffering from a severe shortage.

I heard that in the recent interview of a total 4 applicants ; 3 managed to make it, out of which a grand total of ONE joined! All CPL holders....
