Hello !

I was wondering if some of you could estimate FR's rejection rate for 737 type rated people with 500 hours on type.

I actually had just bad experience with Tyrolean Airways/Austrian Arrors, and it s not that I am paranoid but a little bit courious !

Thanks for the answers.

About 50% overall failure-rate, is what I've heard from a Ryanair captain.:{

Ok, so that should also include low houred non rated 737 pilots...

So basically the chances are not that bad ? Anyone else heard or know anything ?

That is not bad at all compared to BA or Austrian Arrows, for example!

I would say it is more like 60-30. 30 being the rejection rate. Those numbers are based on what I know from our interviews this summer.

Just make sure you know basic IFR flying skills(remember QDM/QDR!) and can fly a SE ILS. Get use to clockwork dials, no FD's and no autopilot.
If you can do that you'll pass.

Attitude and good CRM of course.

What do you mean by "clockwork dials" ?!

Can anyone please help me with what QDM/QDR is. We don't use those terms in the States.

Thanks

QDM is your magnetic track to the becon. QDR is your magentic track from the beacon.

If you think of the R in QDR as Radial, i.e. track away from the beacon, then you will remember which way around they go.

'About 50% overall failure-rate, is what I've heard from a Ryanair captain.'

Does this mean after completing the type rating and paying £20,000+ 50% of people get the chop? seems very high to me considering the extra financial comittment and screening/ assesssment that has already taken place.

Do many of these 50% find other 737 jobs? or are they just swallowed up by a mountain of debt never to be seen again?

great! thanx for that! Im thinkin of heading on up to join you lot in the UK and was wondering what all this stuff ment.

as an aside, does anyone know where QNH came from?!? some kiwi pilot who instructs at my uni told me, but i dont believe him, if i get the same answer from you ill believe him!

QNH (and all the other Qs) comes from the WW2 RAF Q code, which had a three-letter code for almost anything aviation-related. It's been discussed before on this site, and there are plenty of references to it elsewhere on the interweb thingy.

Just to keep you guys hopeful. Spoke to a senior member of ryanair. This year is the first year that ryanair can't expand to its wishes. The reason you may ask? Well it's because they don't have enough pilots. Same story at Flybe, they don't have enough training time to train the pilots. Scroggs, you can confirm or deny this, but i've heard that even virgin can't get enough pilots (read experienced pilots) because all the training courses are full. The next 12 months will be like 1996-97, keep believing, and you will get there!!

Not enough pilots??, so they can not expand??, when the market has thousand of unemployed pilots ready to fork a fortune for their type rating.

Please, let me laugh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!I am laughing so much, please help, I can not stop!!!!

AHAHAHAH!they make fun of us!

The problem comes from the number of TREs and training cpts for line training....

They also may have problems with the irish aviation authority if they hire too many "ab initios" without sufficient number of hours.
The authority said they may not immatriculate aircrafts.....

dcmejodel

Well..in this case it might have some delay for pilots who has just finished their type rating!!

Damned! If we succed in the interview and paid our type rating, when we would join the airline!!!

Anyone have some information about that?!

herta
17th November 2005, 13:33
Well I would beleive that it would depend upon number of hours on type.
With 0 hour without JAR25 experience....should the line training be much longer than with 500 hours on the 737...

dcmejodel
17th November 2005, 15:10
You are totally right herta!!

Do you have any information how long time is between the end of rating and your first commercial flight??

Actualy..nobody knows..

herta
17th November 2005, 15:23
Well, I ve talked to an FR cpt that told me that currently the newly rated "ab initio" have to wait between 3 to 5 month after their rating before starting operation..... that might be the reason FR recruits priorly people with 100 or more hours on type...

dcmejodel
17th November 2005, 16:50
:D Thank you very much !

Well..it seems that you might know quite a lot about Ryanair..:ok:

Do you have some tips that it might be known about the recruitment in order to get a type rating scheme?

Actualy, I am interested in applying for type rating scheme.

And any information could help me ;)

herta
18th November 2005, 07:20
I ve applied 3 times to the TR scheme... but the 3rd time they sent me email telling me that there were so many applicats (over 3000) that were would not garantee me to invite me for selection....

A320rider
20th November 2005, 12:31
same thing for me.
applied, reapplied,...

dcmejodel
22nd November 2005, 15:39
Well...how many times we are going to apply..

So, shall we wait for Ryan or get through another sponsorship ratting scheme?

The harsh reality is that you are not as useful as skippers and experienced FO's. Priority is to train up new skippers and FO's who have command time/potential before long, as well as convert the remaining -200's drivers onto the -800.
Anyway, one wonders why you're sights are not set on a different airline. You WILL get screwed if you join FR. But then, maybe you're into that :E
