As at 29th September 2005 Airlines provisionally indicating their attendance at the 22nd October 2005 EOC 27 Airlines/Operators have provisionally indicated their intention to support the 2005 EOC and others are still to respond:

Personally,
I think the £55 will be worth every penny, just hear the current situation from these Airlines.
Could be either very interesting or depressing day. I think the former though.

Usually it is the top people who go, that is Chief Pilot or a pilot involved in the recruitment process.
I would think £55 is a bargain to find out the real information and target CVs etc. to the right airlines.

A few years ago, it was free to BALPLA members , you had give them a cheque which was returned to you if you turned up.
Then they started keeping the money to pay for the venue hire.
£55 seems a bit steep to charge their(possibly unemployed and in debt) members.
Most industry recruitment fairs are free to attend, maybe BALPA need to make some money to fund projects etc?

Regarding the BALPA conference do you need to be a member to go and when and where is it?

As you may have all guessed I have never been to one and I, like many others have tried everything to get a job. Are these conferences really worth it or are they just another money making excercise?

it is another scam scheme again , like the caa, and all other organisations who think pilots are rich so they can pay more than a flight attendant.

this is the reason why I will not pay any more money to the Balpa.

Some of my friends did the seminar last year, they did not find any job.Wrong, they work for a macdo....
Their requirement are still the same and it is not because you have seen one of the guy from the HR, that he will make you a favor.

Instead they will tell you to stay current, so you keep schools alive.

this seminar is for captain with thousand hours under their belt, no for little flying monkey like us with no jet experience.

this kind of seminar are good only if the market is recruiting, but most of us have less 500-1000h and airlines are asking more than that, so I do not see really the point to spend 50 pounds.

If you live in London, why not, but do the trip to England just to hang my CV...no thanks!ad 2 nights in london, flight ticket, ...

just my point of view.

As a Senior First Officer with a UK airline, who has given up his own time in the past to attend these with my company to speak to people specifically with your experience levels, I find your post:

1 Rude

2 Ill informed

3 Poor advised

4 Immature, and

5 Sad

This is a day where you can find out exactly who is recruiting and more importantly how they want you to apply, be that in person, by email, by fax or by magic carpet.

It is not a one stop job shop.

And to call BALPA a money making exercise is just plain wrong.

The conference is not a waste of time, it is a bun fight, but the last one I went to (a few years ago admittedly) was very useful.

Mind you it was free then!

Anyway, my feelings are the BALPA conference can only be a positive move for wannabes. After all what's £55 in the £35,000 you're probably going to spend?

You hear a lot of rumours from a lot of sources re airline requirements etc, but by going to the conference you'll be getting the facts, not the rumours!

A320rider is nothing more than white noise, one of those who makes it relatively easy for others to dismiss him! Don't waste any energy getting annoyed with him; it simply reinforces his own sense of grievance that the world, which apparently owes him a living, hasn't paid up.

Instead, be thankful that he isn't going to the Conference and so a seat will go to someone who will appreciate it and, hopefully, make full use of the opportunity.

That said, £55 does seem a bit steep! When Pprune had its own Wannabes Seminars, you got a day's interaction with industry professionals and a night's entertainment and food for less!

To answer a previous post, yes you do have to be a BALPA member to attend, it is at the rennaissance hotel in Heathrow on 22nd October.
In recent years, the majority of those attending have been with frozen ATPLs, obviously, those recruiting are on the look out for experienced type rated pilots, they do however try to give good advice to low hours people.
I still fail to see why it is neccessary to charge £55, when they already take 1% of my pay.

Thanks for your reply. I am a member of the IPA and to be honest they've done very little to help me find employment. I wish they would hold seminars for it's members.

Unfortunately, our experience of the numbers of Wannabes that booked places at our seminars and then didn't turn up - or pay - has, for now, persuaded us that the hassle isn't worth it. If we were to run such a thing again, payment would be in advance. Anyway, there are no plans for another seminar for the moment.

There are plans, however, for the next Pprune Bash (the do which we tacked the seminars on to). Take a look in the Ppune Bashes forum elsewhere on the site for more info.
