I'm currently looking at overseas airline opportunities and I have a couple of interviews coming up.

I've been looking at the various forums to get a feel for what the culture is like in different companies.

There's an amazing amount of negativity in the posts...so few people seem to be happy..I guess that's all part of the forums - to have a good vent - BUT recognising that life's a compromise and nothing is perfect, is anyone reasonably happy with their balance of work/employer/standard of living..... let me know who you're with if you are......

I'm particularly interested in reponses from the Middle East and Asia.

Cheers,
Bishop.

Well bishop if your a Capt . and Bus rated then India is the place to be at the moment ...

you can get your hands on a mix of 320's and 340's based on your experience . . .. mind you if youve not been to India before you will either love it or hate it ...there's no inbetween as far as the country goes ....

Job wise a lot of expat capt's are filling up , lots of columbian and OZ chaps , a few americans 2 .....

Pay from what I hear is in USD for you as you will be on contract ... but then again that can vary from airline to airline ......

Among those who are hiring at the moment are Air Sahara , Spice Jet .... Boeing 737's / NG's , Kingfisher , Air Deccan , Goair ...A320's ... and Jet air who have a 90% 737 fleet also have three 340's now as one is leased to Air India .. so they have a lot of expat crew for those as well .

Yes there are a lot of Happy crew however the sad part is there are a lot of happy crew who arent happy with what they have !

happy landings

Yeh BF its a compramise oright. Depends on what your prioriteys are - money or living invironment. For me its money, not careing what sh!thole I live in. And and believe me theres plentey of crapholes to choose from. The only civalised places around here are Singapore, KL, and HKG. Like airfranz said India youll either love or hate - on USD pay youll live like a bloodey king but the day-to-day private and profesional horsesh!t you have to go through to get things done will get to you eventualey. A good expat maxim for sh!thole-living is "Get in, work your arse off, make your money, get the hell out."

I tryed the M.E. (excl UAE) but no one could pay me enough to live there.

I AM happy, but crew like Longlatif is obviously not as he grows sour grape all over his pores.

I'm EXTREMELY happy in Singapore Airlines. Of course, there are a few negatives, as with any airline, but in my view the positives well outweigh the negatives. They pray to the Frank Sinatra God - They do it 'their' way, but once having become accustomed to it, 'their' way is not so bad. :ok:

It would have helped, Bishops_Finger, if your profile indicated your qualifications, at least the current aircraft type.

If you're not appropriately qualified for SIA, Silk Air (their subsidiary) is a happy outfit to work for.

Satumare, you mean longlatif is a "crew" ??? He is not even fit to be one, that is why he is complaining about all companies. He may be a pilot by virtue of having a licence (SPL is also a licence) but a "planeless" pilot.:{

I've never been happier since I left Singapore Airlines. The Airline I left for is not perfect but a world away from the rigid, punitive, immature Singapore system. My only regret is not having left sooner. Dam!

I'm happy where I am, and the bonus is that right now, and it looks like continuing for a while yet, you can pick and choose, leave one and go to another very easily.

India?? I haven't worked there but have visited. Not a bad place for sheer interest, architeture food etc but not sure if I'd want to live there. You can handle almost anyting for six months though.
I hear a lot of negative things about Japan and China. Mates in SQ seems to like it most of the time, and Singapore is a great place to live.

Anyone keeping tabs on the For and Against SIA here?:O

At the end of the day, an airline and it's culture either 'fits' you, or it doesn't.

I can get by quite well on the SGD$284,000 (approx US$167,000) that they've paid me in the last year. Not as good as some, but stability counts for a lot.
