Apparently, there is a rumour going round that there are a lack of B777 pilots in SIA which is resulting in flight cancellations.
Certainly, records show that over the past 10 days, SQ255 at 0005, the first daily departure for SIA has been cancelled a few times this week with no explanation. BNE is now served double daily + a few SQ255 flights in between.
Is this true I wonder?

Pay the pilots, get the productivity.

2006 will be the year of the PILOT. India & China alone needs 3000+
The airlines better start waking up or pilots will pick and choose for the best job, money and treatment !:ok:

I like the sound of that statement, I hope it becomes fact sooner rather than later to stop the bank manager putting a hit on me?

SQ are still putting on more flying so I am not sure if the overall shortage is real.
As far as the general shortage is concerned when the U.S goes into recession and DL/NW/CO/AA seek Chapter 11 protection there will be large numbers of pilots from the U.S looking for work in other parts of the world.
There are approx 4000 pilots still furloughed, some since Oct 2001 who are getting very restless. With the impact of high fuel costs still to work there way into the fare structure there could be a downturn in the demand for air travel.
This will see the older inefficient jets grounded and less flights operated putting pressure on pilot numbers.

There is hardly a shortage of pilots nor of qualified pilots anywhere at any airline where pay and working conditions are superlative.

In relation to cost of living SIN is better paid than HKG!
Worst is Europe.

I disagree. IMHO cost of living for pilots is cheaper in HKG than SIN (well, talking about CX vs SQ drivers). Standard of living is opposite tho.
