Bros, just came to my mind to start a thread for our cadet pilot intake so that we won't choke up the cadet pilot thread with our posts. Unfair to the rest of the mates who are posting questions about interviews, tests and other selection stuffs.
Maybe, we could update each other in this thread as we prepare for OBS Lumut and the briefing on 01 Sep.
Btw, which fleet are you guys heading for? And, have any bros recieved the letter of offer? :D
freaktrimmer
10th August 2005, 15:38
thats a good question .. (fleet)
to start things off, they'll make u the captain of the cessna 152 fleet in seletar ...
happy landings,

hey guys,
me too....i went for my medical on the 23 Sept 2005....one guy from my batch got called for the Oct13 course...he didn't had to wait for one month for the resignation notice so left first....He's a S'porean....
I guess those M'sians have to wait for their employment pass to be cleared and then only SIA will contact us....i think i takes about 3 weeks....
Anyway just be patient cause the notice from SIA will come soon....
:D

13th October 2005, 13:59
I was 2 months off my 33rd B-day. Couldn't join 114 because of my current contract.
Waiting for my time to "ORD". Wonder anyone can provide me the oldest age SIA takes in cadets?
babygod
14th October 2005, 02:08
ya. long wait. not sure when we will get called.
middlekingdom
14th October 2005, 02:23

babygod
14th October 2005, 02:36
yes swift. eh bro, my finger also pain. :(
i was thinking to tender in early. but its a big risk. what if they never call me up for Nov batch. hope the calls come soon if not sure not enough notice and have to compensate to company.
Nov batch in 3rd week of Nov right? Hope they call next week.
meqwerty
14th October 2005, 03:12
anyone here not 25 (for singaporeans, i mean) yet as of 13 oct?
if u guys thought ur wait was long, my med was aug 5th.
middlekingdom
14th October 2005, 05:07
Hey Swift, you are right....I feel we shoould be patient and just wait for thier email...
Hey Babygod, how did you know about Nov batch that is starting at the 3rd week of November?.....its new to me and to all of us in this thread...
middlekingdom
14th October 2005, 07:42
Thanks for your information Swift....hopefully we are all in the same batch going for the 25 Nov course ....
the wait is killing....i think all we could do is just wait and maybe read up some stuff on ATPL and flying....
babygod
14th October 2005, 07:47
anyone know this week batch. how many go medical?
SQ007
14th October 2005, 09:07
Hi guys, hope that you guys get called up soon. Just be patient. Anyway, it is not true that they will get offended if you call them. By all means call them if you have any questions, but relevant ones, dun call and ask why you haven't get called. I don't know about J****, but I called E***** so many times to sort out my employment pass and other issues. Hope to see you guys soon.
Cheers.
SQ007
14th October 2005, 09:35
I think the max age for non-airforce is 32. But just submit your application and try.
Cheers.

SQ007, (assumingly u are a malaysian)
how long does it take between your medical and the email notification of the offer?
Deepsea
14th October 2005, 13:10
Hi SQ007,
You with 114? I did, submitted my applications and cleared interviews and medical. Was offered to join you guys on 02 Sep, but current contract with company is valid and liquidation too ex. So told SQ "thank you, but now is not a good time."
So now waiting and counting days. Wondering how long the offer will last. One of my pals in 113 managed to delay 9 months.
Anyway, hope you enjoy the course. Will pop by Seletar one of these days to catch up with SpongeRog and 2 others. Look forward to meet you there.
Best of luck.:ok:

14th October 2005, 14:43
deepsea bro.. thanks for your reply... are you married?...
i got a friend who tried for pilot few years ago, was rejected. The reasons given were because of his marriage at a young age and also they were afraid that he could not concentrate in his oversea training due to his family commitment.
so does any bros here who are married and was passed as a cadet pilot?
predator79
14th October 2005, 14:50
Swifter4531... i got a friend who got the same medical date as yours (30 SEPT).. anyway he's now at OBS training (OCT 13).. The reason why you weren't called up and my friend did, i believed is the clearance issue... he was working for SIA when he applied for Cadet pilot thus his clearance to work for SIA is smoother than yours... be patient bro.. you are already so near than most of the people here... you will definitely reach that finishing line...
SQ007
15th October 2005, 02:53
streetguy, I can't really remember how long I waited, sorry, but I waited much longer than the rest of the malaysians because I had some problems with my employment pass. Basically, Malaysians have to wait a bit longer for the process of Minister of Manpower I believe, and even much longer if you don't have a degree.
swifter, I don't think I know middlekingdom. I can advice you guys to start reading on Gas Turbines, Theory of Flight and Airframe systems while waiting if you are free. I don't know what to do for ATPL as I'm still in tech phase though. I'm kindda struggling now cause I didn't do it back then.
Cheers.
middlekingdom
15th October 2005, 03:01
Hey streetguy,
From what i heard, there is no fixed 'waiting period' from the date of your medical to the date you receive the email for notification of the offer.....some have waited for almost 3 months and some waited only 4 days to get notified....for Malaysians...i think it would be the same as our other brothers who are S'poreans.
Hey SQ007,
You mean its good to call Mr. E......??? did he get angry or frustated when u called?.......anyway.....like what u said...just be patient...btw Swift, i think SQ 007 is not in my batch cos I think his a Cadet now.
SQ007
15th October 2005, 03:16
deepsea, yea, I'm in 114, you know spongerog?
predator, there are married cadets in my course, 2 of them excluding the airforce guys
Cheers..
streetguy
15th October 2005, 03:42
SQ007 and middlekingdom,
thanx fer the prompt reply.
anyway we were told by Mr. E that the employment pass for M'sians will take an average of 4-6 weeks.....
i definitely know s'poreans clear the employment thingy much sooner than m'sians as most of them got the offer within 2 weeks of their medicals...
just some of my observations....
predator79
15th October 2005, 05:48
Thanks SQ007 for your information... That's really an important piece of news for me...

For some reasons, I noticed that Singapore Airlines
has been conducting interview after intervew for the past few
months and their requirements (invitation to interview and
passing requirement) are not as stringent as before. If i am not
wrong, the number of interview held each year used to be something like 3 interviews per YEAR but now it seems like they are conducting interview almost every month. So am i being ignorant about their interview procedure or is this a sign of desperation for pilots?
if it was really the case of SIA is in need of pilots,
so pilots and pilot wannabes here, in your opinion,
how long will this ongoing interview trend last?
middlekingdom
15th October 2005, 13:48
Hey guys,
Just to reconfirm what streetguy mentioned....MoM takes around 6 weeks to clear the employment or s pass for Malaysians....
How I wish I was a Singaporean....hahaha....
anyone out there care to give some of us who are in the 'waiting pool' some advice on what to do while waiting????.....
Hey babygod,
I don't know how many went for medical this week....maybe you can call up ST medical services and ask :D
middlekingdom
15th October 2005, 14:00
Hey predator79,
yeah....SIA is really in need of pilots now...look at their future fleet size....with 31 B777-300ER and maybe -200LR...what more the 15 A380....
anyway....i think the interview trend will only stop when they have enough of pilots....(just assuming)

Predator, I am married with a sixteen month old little girl too. Was grilled quite hard on this during the first interview. But the CAPT really brought up many valid points. I am grateful to him for sharing the experience.
My half-cents worth : convince them that your family will not be a burden to you during the three year cost. My feel is that they preferred married guys cos of level of maturity.
Hopefully when your bond is up, we will be course mates.
SQ007,
Hi, please refer to you PM.

15th October 2005, 14:25
Dear all,
I fully understand the agony of the wait. Mine and two of my good friends in 114 was a month... Another waited two.
But we kept to the following slogan :
"No bad news is good news".
I suppose as long as there is nothing official from SIA that you are out, chopped, etc, you are still in their list of possible candidates. Its just a question of when you fit into their complex "big picture".
At this stage after the medical, we have all done what we can, nothing we do (except maybe pray) like calling E***** or J**** will change the results of the two interviews.
I wish everyone the best of luck, not in the wait, but in your course to start one day soon.:ok:
predator79
15th October 2005, 16:45
Deepsea... thanks for your enlightenment and encouragement... i do hope to become your coursemate as well but don't think it will materialise for this few years.. sadly, my bond still has another 2 years to run... anyway, will pray hard to become your colleague..lol... by the way, what are you working as now?
freaktrimmer
15th October 2005, 20:26
yeah, its kinda become a joke hasnt it. every other dude walkin the streets of spore is an SIA pilot now ...
they r just looking for quantity not quality, standards are dropping ... but hell yeah, there is no other way to get underpaid air jockeys ... and to answer ur question, yes the hiring will continue till everyone is a pilot (every other person aint good enuf)
cheers,

middlekingdom
18th October 2005, 06:01
Hey babygod,
the 3 of us in my batch are waiting for the Nov OBS course...yeah...we went for the 23 Sept medical in ST medical services we all cleared our medical but still waiting for a call or email from SIA...
anyway, one guy in our interview batch who went for the medical on 23 Sept got called for the Oct 13 OBS course...he was a S'porean and did not need to wait for a month for SIA to notify him as he was unemployed at that time...
Hopefully the news from SIA will come as soon as possible....
babygod
18th October 2005, 06:23

forza.. do you have any slightest clue why you aren't call up yet? could it be you have underwent lasik, medically unfit or poor eyesight (just my assumption, no offence)?

19th October 2005, 08:10
i dun think is first come first serve also. must have choosing system. not sure if the scoring matix thing really is true or not.

19th October 2005, 09:12
Hi pred79,
Its ok for asking, well for your info. according to the RSAF medical checkup I have perfect eyesight, hearing and medically fit. nothing wrong with me mentally or physically.. My other mates are also perfectly fine... only thing i can think of is age i guess... cause i turn 25 only in early Oct. correct me if im wrong and perhaps i told them that i needed 6 wks notice... well like all of you will say we just have to wait and thats all we can do, calling them up will be a waste of time and all you know is its in progress, we'll inform you once you are selected... blah blah blah... hopefully i can join the Nov batch since i passed my bday... sigh...................:(

yeah another day without news...anyway have anyone in this thread tried to call SIA?....
Wow forza...thats a long long wait....u really have the patience so do your friends....anyway i think everyone who are still waiting after the final interview for this year's candidates will be fitted into the NOV batch..i'm guessing...its all up to SIA....

22nd October 2005, 17:09
Hi all,
Just to clarify what I meant on the previous mail..
I think the HR works in a way as to make sure the shortlisted ones for the intake are certain they can make it for the course before they send out the contract. They don't want to have cases where they send out to those who are uncertain whether they can make the date.
I know it does not make sense that they only send out the contract at the end yet most of us here needs at least a month to notify the company. But this is how they work. Anyway, if you can't be released in time for the nov course, then you just got to let them know and seek for alternative arrangement. Simple as that.

Congrats guys on being offered your contracts. Do your best, work hard, look after each other.
Trust those that have gone before you, help those that follow.
You will hear these words "I didn't invite you, SIA didn't invite you. Now pay attention, goddammit!" Don't think that it is hard, because after you are done studying, it gets harder.
And when you finally get on line, remember all the times someone did you a disservice, and remind yourself never to be like that.
Happy landings!

Hey people,
I have applied for the position of cadet pilot once in July and again in Sept. Sadly, there have been no news from SIA till now. I certainly look forward to the career as a pilot! I need an interview to get started, be it successful interview or not. Sigh...
This is my status so far,
Age: Just turned 25
Qualifications: Engineering (Hons 3rd class)
Job experience: Nil (not considering part time)
Anything wrong with this status that doesn't qualify me for an interview? I plead for your opinions that can help me in anyway. Thank you.

God damn it OBS is @#$%#@$^@, But fun filled and I do really enjoyed it a lot, looking at the positive side. If you guys want to train up for obs, do a bit of running and train your detoids endurance (for kayaking). My course and I enjoyed our Outward Bound alot, and we knew each other better true all the activities. Some advice will be;
1. Bring 2 shoes (1 x wet, 1 x run)
2. Snake powder (Mandatory)
3. Try to bring a camera, our course only had a camera to capture the kodak moments.
4. Sun Block (Mandatory-Go for SPF 50)
5. An Open Mind
Its wonderful to see you guys made it through the interview. For those guys who are still waiting up, no news is very good news. For those guys who are wondering if they should give up trying applying for SQ ab-initio, do not give up till your last drop of effort, good things don't come easy.
Enjoy your holiday!

The activities for OBML are:
1) Kayaking
2) Sailing (Whaler)
3) Jungle Trekking
4) Rafting
5) Rappelling
6) Rock climbing
7) Running (Not a lot compared to Ubin)
8) Games etc
The activities might be similar to Ubin, but the terrain is totally different. Bring a pair of glove if you are prone to getting blisters. You'll be paddling or rowing alot if there is no wind during your whaler expedition. Also, bring vinegar, ointment or other stuff to fight leeches and mosquitoes. You'll be seeing alot of these bloodsuckers. The SAF insect repellent is very effective against leeches. Bring LOTS of re-hydration salts. Those that you can mix with water and drink. It helps alot during your final expedition. Lastly, bring a nice pair of shades to look good for the camera.
Don't overpack, as most of the equipment will be provided. All I can say is that OBML is fun, so go physically prepared with an open mind, and you'll enjoy the experience with your new buddies. Whatever it is, take care not to get injured. All the best, and have fun!

hearing test would be conducted with a pair of headphones in a soundproof room.

To all those joining SFC in the near future:
You do not need to bring that many things to SFC. Most of the stuff that you require will be provided by the College.
Your uniforms will be arranged within days of your arrival, and you should receive your uniforms within 2 weeks. Textbooks and essential stationary will be provided, like calculators, nav rulers.. etc. You may elect to bring in your own calculators if you so wish. Do bring paper to write on, for your own notes.
Living in Seletar, again, most amenities are already provided, like washing machines, TV, fridges... no air-con. You may bring in your own stuff, like laptops or other electrial/electronic appliances if you require them. Otherwise, everything is provided.
You may wish to bring in a bicycle (if you have one) for convenience.
For those with aviation headsets, bring them if you have it. You can use them on your flying training.
As for cooking, your meals are provided, and Jalan Kayu is near if you want supper at night. Hence, there is no need for instant noodles, but light snacks like chocolate and sweets are recommended. This will help you stay awake during class... Another recommendation is a thermos flask for storing coffee / tea / hot drinks. Again, essential to help you stay awake in class... especially after lunch...
Congratulations for those who have joined, and good luck to those going for your interviews.

You will be searched on arrival at Lumut. You will be required to surrender all your electrical and electronic appliances, which will include your PDAs, handphones, GPS if you have any... You will also be required to surrender your wallets and passports.
Smokers, you will have to surrender your cigarettes. Any food will also be confiscated. So, no chocolates, sweets, instant noodles, canned food... etc.
As mentioned in the briefing package, most items will be provided at Lumut, but you may elect to bring some additional items such as candles, solid fuel, lighters, insect repellent(s), mosquito coils, hydration packs (Camel bags are good), jungle hat (essential if you dun wan your face to be burnt), sun block, hunting / diving knives, disposable water-proof camera, booties... think that's about the stuff you need. Again, most of these items are optional.
Enjoy your time there. Minimal running required, but the expeditions are quite demanding. Leeches will be a HUGE problem. Avoid them if you can, and ALWAYS check when you can. You'll never know where they may end up. :)
You may want to bring some money over to purchase souvenirs and food en-route to and from the airport. My course ended up at KLIA for a well-deserved beer while waiting for the flight back to Singapore.
Enjoy yourselves at Lumut!

Congratulations to all who got their favourable reply for Nov OBS intake.
Im eagerly awaiting mine:D
Just curious whether there will be any test/assessment for those undergoing OBS training?

The OBS programme has no specific "tests" or "assessments", rather, it is a programme to challenge YOURSELF. Depending what you bring to OBS (I dun mean literally...) you will inevitably get different results when you leave.
I learnt a lot about myself, and what I want to get out of the programme. Again, it is about challenging yourself. It is not the expeditions, or the climbing or the activities that matter. So, go with an open mind. You'll never know what you'll learn out of it. Once again, you should never stop learning. It'll make you a dead pilot.
You guys will probably not see me in WSSL anytime soon, though I may drop by once in a while to see my friends. I'm not very keen on identifying myself here, but suffice to say that I am currently flying on the B777 fleet.
If you've got any questions, I'll try to answer them as well as I can, remember, I was once a cadet like you guys, so I know what you're going through.
Cheers!

Hi guys,
Good luck to those going for their 2nd interviews. Guess what? I've cleared mine, and will be going for medical tomorrow!
For those who attended the 1st interviews (esp the 17 and 18 Nov) and are still waiting for news, dun lose hope. For my 2nd interview, there were 10 of us (8 from 17 Nov AM session, 1 from 17 Nov PM session, 1 had his 1st interview 2 months ago!). So you see, you can still be called up for 2nd interview as long as you have not received any rejection email.
The SIT tests were alright. Think they want to see you participate actively in group work/discussion, and are able to both lead and cooperate with others as a team.
Best of luck to all aspiring pilots!

Hey hrc,
Common understanding is usually six months. I reapplied after three months, and continue to do so every two weeks, but they only replied after the six months interval. Then again, there are some who got called up again less than that.

Sorry to hear abt yr results. If flying is yr passion don't give up yet. I still haven't got any newst, so hopefully no news is good news. Heard that they've got 2nd interviews lined up for 29 and 30th Nov. Anyone out there who lucky enough to make to these dates, all the best.(and who may they be???)
And those who still waiting like me, don't stop chanting. It seems pretty quiet this thread nowadays, did the bulk of the wannabes migrated to somewhere else? or are they just playing audience...hmmm

Dear all...
Thanks for all the encouragements and tips given out on this thread. Really appreciate it. Wish I could have "stumbled"onto this forum earlier though.
Well, second attempt for me at the first interview on the 17th...but alas..the result of the interview arrived about 2 mornings ago and it aint good. :(
After reality hits and painfully sinks its way through me, I am not too sure if I would want to have another go at it any more. Such setbacks are rather hard to take especially when you think this is THE career that you are destined for.
At that moment, many thoughts race past me....Is it really that I sucked in the interview or am I just not cut out to be a pilot? I mean, when u don't suceed in your first interview, you know something must have screwed up or you are basically not prepared. However, getting rejected at your 2nd attempt's got to mean something doesnt it? Maybe I shouldn't have started off saying " oh..i wanted to be a pilot when I was young.." when you know it's the dead truth...haha. Or maybe its SIA's way of telling you "..for the second time my friend, you are not suitable for this job.." *sigh*
Oh well, from the previous post from vamp, I understand its 6 mths before sia reconsiders you for the first interview again? It's gonna be a looong 6 mths wait for me ...but hell, I waited about 2 years after my first interview to re-apply again...so why not 6 months?
Alright, enough of my rubbish. All I can say is; all the best to those who were selected, and keep those hopes up high to those that are waiting. Finally to those who tried and not suceed, don't give up! (I wish I could say that to myself though...haha)
And please...if another "commonplace" exists...do show me the way...;)
Take care one and all!
BlueEagle
26th November 2005, 22:16
SIA are not telling you that you are not suitable to become a pilot just that, at the moment, you don't fit their mould.
Now that you have had two goes you probably have a gut feeling of where your weak points are and you now have six months to work on them! Are you a Singaporean and over 26? Are you a Malaysian and have they recruited their quota for now?
Remember the majority of SIA cadets don't start training until they have completed their tertiary education and their National Service.
Always tough getting a "Thanks, but No Thanks" letter, now put it behind you, work on your shortcomings and better luck next time!:ok:

27th November 2005, 11:46
Gonzalas,
I agreed with BlueEagle, IMHO there are many ways of moving forward, however there is only one way of standing still. In all our living years, we made some mistakes, we received certain rejections. We can't whine at it all the time, nor even in the future. Pick yourself up and move forward, learn from your mistakes. Knowledge is only useful and critical, when you have a tough decison to make.
Good things don't come easily my friend. Go for it!

Thks guys for all the encouragement given here! Guess I have to take this positively if I really want to be a pilot ya?
Blue eagle : Am above 26 and below 32. A true blue Sgp here too. I am basically a "NO" to all the questions on the last page of the application form. (less the "Have you applied for any other position in SIA" of course.) Completed NS and tertiary edu, in fact, have been working for some time...
White oak : Thanks for your encouragement! Very soon I am gonna turn this forum into a "pilot rejects anonymous" hahaha....(my apologies..lame joke)
BUT seriously...thanks again whiteoak and blue eagle! BTW, are you guys by any chance a FO or SO? B777 or A340 flyers? Or the B747?
Limpeh
27th November 2005, 15:31
Hi,
From your post, at least you do sound like you have done some research on SIA's fleets... and that is a good thing. There are many other interviewees who have absolutely no idea what is the physical difference between a 777 and a 747.
Even so, there are some fellow pilots that I know who lack "passion" in the job. Some are in it for the money, sadly... but hey, there's all sorts of people everywhere.
Dun be disheartened about your lack of success for the interview. This goes out to the rest of the "rejectees" too. There is a pilot I know who went for the first interview SEVEN (7) times, and now, he is a Captain. So, try again.
Good luck for your next interview!
JerryMaguire
28th November 2005, 17:26
Hey chaps, it's great seeing the determination in some of you...for those who are disheartened, pls pick yrself up. :o)
Think abt it, it's only the 1st round...u can try for it as many times as u want to (though there was some rumour going that they'll only give each chap 2 tries now)
I applied for the position round Jun, got called for 1st round a week later and then the 2nd round another week later...frankly, I was interested in Aviation and have been playing the microsoft flight simulator for a long time...gave it a long thought and decided to embark on this career...in fact, was pretty convinced myself that the interview would be a breeze...read a couple of airline interview books as well and prep a lot of notes...even went to the extent of meeting up with no. of FO friends and even a CAPT just to find out more...
BUT I DID NOT GET THROUGH THE 2ND ROUND.
Honestly, I felt really bad coz this is what I really wanna do....fly...but was not given the opportunity becoz the interviewers think I might not be suitable for the job. (especially so becoz was told that once u flung the 2nd round, it's the end of the road) Either I did not manage to convince them of my passion or they saw some other things lacking in me...
Nonetheless, I'm not giving up and neither should u chaps! Have done some ground check and there exists some pilots in SIA who have reattempted the 2nd round and passed...amazing but true.
So I'm bidding my time, do a deeper reflection on what went wrong and perhaps give it a long shot after I've sorted myself out.
For the 1st interview, I think the CAPT and the HR chap are just ticking checklist of sorts....my experience was that they were pretty systematic in the asking of questions and honesty is important. Try substantiating watever u say with examples. ie, when they ask if you are afraid of heights and u've done airborne jumps, indicate so. When they ask if you'r claustrophobic, tell them if you'r working on a ship or confined quarters. Plus read up on SIA fleet information and basic technical stuffs on flying. Think that shld suffice....they won't go too deep into details...just an indication of interest to fly and display of some sort of leadership.
In life, there are the gifted ones and the dilligent ones. Both shall be successful so long as they are passionate abt what they do :o)

30th November 2005, 12:30
VAMP,
IMHO, just be yourself. You can try to "pretend" to be someone else and clear the interview, but somewhere down the line, things will catch up with you.
Remember, the panel are seasoned pilots. They have seen hundreds and hundreds of applicants and CAPT M has seen batches and batches of pilots from interview till they pass out into the fleet and he still "sees" them. Like it or not, he knows what he wants and if he sees through your pretense, that's integrity problem and you are history.
But there is still some prep that can be done. Read up on the facts and figures. Its unforgivable if you don't know a 777 from a 747. They look for attitude and passion. Knowing all the answers is not important. Its the spirit to learn that they want.
Just to share, my interview had a guy from MFA who I believed "aced" the interview. He was able to answer highly technical questions that I know nuts about. Turbines, diesel, flight physics....blah blah blah. Didn't make it.
Another guy, couldn't remember who his YFC instructors were, but admitted it gracefully. Askedl why the Piper has 2 magnetoes and how they are wired. Attempted with what he knew, then siad " that's all I can remember sir, I should not try to bull you." But he made it. Training with 114 now.
Yet another one, was asked about diesels engines cos he works in car sales. Answered ok, but CAPT M went on to ask about the compression ratio....Of course he freaked out. Heard CAPT M shake his head and said "pity, such fundamentals".....
But he held his head high, said he will go read up. now with 115.
All the best in your interview. Rest well before the first day.
JERRY MAGUIRE,
I am also waiting for my current bond to end. I like your last statement : Some born, some toil. But both succeed. Hope we will be batch mates someday.

During my interview, Cpt M said that many interviewees have told him that their dream plane to fly is A380. He asked me if I could tell him what I would like to fly besides that.
After some thought, I told him the truth that the A380 is what I thought I would like to fly. No harm, rather than lying that I dream to fly something else and get caught with his next question I stuck to what I wanted. I said I was curious about the plane and guess he liked the answer.

Hi Deepsea,
Thank you so much for your advice. There is much truth in what you had said. Initially, when I went for my very first interview, it was like all prepped up and such, yet I didn't make the cut. This time round I made the ultimate decision to be just myself and carried with me the prepared knowledge of the fundamental technicalilties and the truth about me. At the end of the day, if it is meant to be, it is meant to be and if it's not, life must go on. After reading much into this forum, my own summation would be "To each his own", there is no define standard citeria that they are looking for....preparing helps but doesn't confirm.... Like they said "No two take offs and landings are the same"......so some had it easy, others had it the hard way. But don't give up trying or be complacent, as you'll never know when it'll come and how it does. And if it does, you might as well be prepared for it....:ok:
I wish all the best to the rest of us........

It mostly depends on how long notice you need to quit your current job as well as course availability.
I did my medicals on 23 Sep, ought to have entered 25 Nov OBS but due to some miscommunications about my notice period, I ended up with the 6 Jan OBS. One of the fellas who did medicals with me started his OBS on 13 Oct as he was unemployed at that point in time.

Hi Willc,
During our 2nd interview on the 23rd Nov, Edward told us that the Jan course was a request that they never had. He mentioned that its likely there wouldn't be enough ppl to start b'cos those still working would only want to tender their resig. after this work yr, which would then entitle them for their bonus...
But i think otherwise... those which are able to start imm. will be pushed into the Jan course, so from various batches, they are able to select the imm. ones...
This is just my opinion. When did u receive your confirmation and how was it made known to you? Hopefully i'll rx mine by next week...

Hi all, logically speaking i don't think this 6th Jan will be cancelled. I think there are lotsa' pple out there waiting eagerly to be called up by SIA for this intake. I for one, gave up my bonus (so-called company's biggest payout somemore!) to join the 6th intake. So if they would to cancel the 6th, it would be a double blow for me (idle 1 month and lost bonus ;) )
Another reason is i think this course fits in very nicely. By scheduling it from 6th to 26th, they have avoided the clash with Chinese New Year. This means we will get to enjoy CNY first before shipping out to the 'rig' ;) . (Heard this 6 months in Seletar would be toughest life of a Cadet Pilot)
So take heart! I'm sure there will be many others out there like me who would jump at the chance to join the cohort rather than waiting for some short term gains like bonus. Time is of the essence. The sooner we start, the sooner we get our hands on the Cessnas/Baron/Learjet/777/747/340s!!!!
For Beechcraft , Bombardier , Boeing and airBus!!!! (The quadruple Bs!!)
Limpeh
8th December 2005, 18:00
Hi guys,
Just to make a slight correction...
At this point in time, when you finish your Cessna / Baron / Learjet, you'll be put onto the B777 fleet, EXCEPT if you signed up for Cargo, and in that case, you'll be on the B744 fleet.
Currently, there is no plan to have a Second Officership for the A345. So, if you're passenger fleet, it'll be the B777, Cargo, B744.
Cheers!

Welcome all other 117 mates on board. FYI the OBS location is confirmed to be Ubin, those who filled in the Lumut form will have to go back to CAAS medical to get the medical results transferred. Those who have yet to go for medicals I suggest you may want to download the Ubin form from its website and bring it along for your medicals.

Wait for your contract to arrive, all the necessary instructions will be in there
Meanwhile start getting fit, I was told at ubin we will run twice a day in incremental distance!!

Hey bros...limpeh,
Regarding your statement on the fleets and on our employment, just wondering will it be indicated in the contract on which division would we be joining...passenger, freight..etc? Or we'll only find out after completing fly school... anyone any idea?

Damn...
I hate running. Well, but if they put my "wings" in front of me fitted to my head hanging from a bamboo pole, I might just start running...

willc : you will know from your contract's letterhead which company u joining, pax or cargo. As for fleet, if pax will by 777. If cargo, then 744.

guys,
lucky bunch of ppl. just a little thought, does it really matter whether its pax or cargo. ppl out here are dying to just fly any jet after paying for their flying for the past 4-5 years and building up enuf experience before getting a look in ...
from what i gather, 26 is the miniumum age for u guys to be picked .. they shud increase it to maybe 30 .. so that u guys think before u speak .. and dont ask silly questions like which "terminal we'll go through when operating flights" or "stewardesses being involved in the OBS" ..
cheers mate
PS : this is directed to a few of u .. u know who u r

hey there, on_the_right... you certainly sounded not too pleased with some contents in this thread. Oh well but I'm sure you got your point there.
terryble: thanks for the info though... just a thought cause the terms read differently for pax/cargo. But at the end of day... like what on_the_right said..heck cares.

So now you're the expert on when to say what?
Not too long ago you were also an expert on training standards / quality of English in SIA / SFC:
http://www.pprune.org/forums/showthread.php?threadid=195539&perpage=20&pagenumber=3
Quite a few people expressed their opinions about what you said, myself included.
But then you went quiet in the face of all that.
Now you surface again for some trolling?
Are the school holidays boring you, little man?

i did read ur post ... its kinda ridiculous that u posted ur senseless mind again out on this thread ...
just browse through a few posts (in this thread), read them urself ... and then talk abt any standards to me .. got that !

on_the_right:
mate, age is not an indication of virtue. a very good indication is yourself. if being older makes one think more, then why are you here spouting nonsense?
true, granted that working in GA for 3 years for your ATPLs & slogging to accumulate your 1,500 hours is hard work but being offered a cadetship is a once in a lifetime opportunity. anyhow, i find it quite ironic that given that you want to apply for a particular airline & yet you look down on others? Jesus... You're an absolute disgrace to pilots. I wonder what sort of CRM skills do you possess...

Personally, I think this forum is great, it seems most of the users of this forum are helping each other one way or another... its the freedom of words that makes this forum interesting...
but i think whatever whoever says breaks no bones. If you're as mature as you think you are, you probably wouldn't have written those. haha... anyway, we're all sitting on the learning curve, And i don't think you're 30 the moment you're born, right?
Last, don't try to suggest changing the policy if you're not even close to the board of directors!! ".. they shud increase it to maybe 30 .."
You know who you are...
p.s: Humble...
Cheers :)

Hi everyone, is the above list for the 6th Jan batch finalise? Are there anymore going for the above intake?
if i am not mistaken(and please correct me if i'm wrong), they usually fill it up to 20 cadets for each batch. Isn't it?
