Had an interesting sight this morning - peculiar aeroplane heading north over Bramshill (NW of Blackbushe) towing a banner which read something like "Kiela will you marry me. Love Grant". (Can't be 100% sure as it was back to front to us). What we'd love to know is a) whether she accepted and b) what on earth was the aeroplane? Does anyone rememebr a Fiesler Storch? It looked very similar to that so I'd love to know what it was.

Thanks..

PS.. Having just found some pics of the Storch, I don't think it was one of those... but it sure was a bizarre looking aeroplane.

In Greece they use a Piper Cab - a single engine high wing aircraft. I am not sure if I can find a picture and give you a link but you may google it..

Could it have been a Wilga? Don't know how many are flying over here but it sounds like the one you were reffering to.

There is a Husky regularly banner towing in the Thurrock - Canvey Island area most weekends.

Looks like it might have been a Wilga, or something similar. Very dark, all over, colour and the reg was written in white or similar light colour along the fuselage. I was so bemused by the banner that I didn't get the reg!

Thanks for the help guys..

PS.. Just checked the British register and there is a Wilga which might fit the bill - G-BWDF. Just need an answer to the first question now!

Perhaps the prospective "Mrs" Grant plans to reply in kind? :p

Presumably it is intended to bring the locals up to date with any new Paaandland offers and any changes in benefit collection arrangements.

At the time of sighting, I snapped a quick pick which I hardly expected to show much. However, by flipping it horizonally the banner is revealed! Click here: Piccy (http://members.aol.com/berksbirds)

It certainly looks like a Wilga from your photo. A pal who buys and sells aircraft bought one and after a very quick brief found himself flying a machine with instruments calibrated in thargs per square houndstooth or somesuch. It was soon moved on and due to it's high-lift devices, was picked up and blown over in quite a light wind. Scratch one Wilga. Ther's one in the Wroughton museum and I saw one for sale at Londonderry last year.

Ozplane... Thanks for that; sounds like a novel airplane. What do they sell for? 'bout £4?

They probably do in the land of their birth but they do have value as glider-tugs and as you have seen, banner-towers. I think the one my chum sold went for about £22K but it was some time ago and the old brain-cells are on "weekend work".

G-BWDF can be seen here in all her glory for anyone who's interested:
