As a pilot for CX can you bid for a home base in SFO? If not what's the reason since SFO is a CX destination.....
cheers

Sure you can...IF
1. There are vacancies on the base at your rank, and
2. Your aircraft type flies to SFO more than three times weekly, and
3. You are not an S/O, and
4. You have the seniority to hold the base, and
5. You are eligible to live in the USA, and
6. At the company's discretion.
If you meet the criteria, sure you can be based in SFO.

If you choose to be based there (and get selected), you will have to return to HKG for your command anyway... also remember that if you are an FO on the 777, you will only be flying regional routes, and thus will also be based in HKG.
Believe me, if you are trying to get into CX, get used to HKG, you'll be seeing alot of it! Also, it seems as if most Yanks want to stay in the US, which is fair enough... but there's a WHOLE 'nother world out here to explore... and to be honest, it !!!!s all over the US.:E
Perhaps you should look at Cargo if you want to be based Stateside... still a great operation, with great equipment. Dunno, up to you.

Number 5 is highly inaccurate. 90 percent of the guys based in LAX and SFO are Canadians!!!! (pax fleet)
