Citation 2 on grass runway?

Just curious if it can be done.

Looking at the aircraft, it seems suited to it.........nice wide track undercarrage........no extreme wing sweep, so landing speeds are relatively low.


It would of course need to be quite a long strip.....and not too soft.

Is there any mention of operating on Grass/gravel/dirt runways in the flight manual?

I would imagine that performance would not be much of an issue assuming there was sufficient length and it was dry, but what would concern me would be weight . I don't know much about the Citation II but I would think it is in the vicinity of 12,000 lbs or so. I would certainly be concerned about how soft the surface may be before considering landing even if it was approved by the AFM. I know of a few ramps with an asphalt surface that can become a problem on a hot day.

I don't know about the Citation on grass operation but i have seen a Cessna movie of one landing on a dirt strip and it was fitted with a gravel kit. I do not know if that was a II or an earlier model.

There is also a Dassault film about Falcon 10 taking off and landing on a grass runway. Is it certified?

I am sure C500 were cleared for grass, I seem to remember you had to make and entry in the tech log as it counted as more than one landing, but then again I could be wrong, its been a while :)

Used to operate a gravel kitted 550 in Saudi, not many gravel strips there only one we went into was one over near Dahran where the huge Date groves were Al Hasa I think. Would hesitate to take it into grass if there was any possibility of moisture due the loading, very dry dirt/grass probably not too much of a problem at all.
