G'day,

Im a young Aussie GA pilot whos just started the recruitment/selection process for CX (amung others) and was wondering if some locals could clear up a few things for me ?? (Ive heard way too many rumors !)

1. Are the industrial dramas at CX bad enough to make me think twice about even considering a career there ?!?

2. What is life like in HK for a lowly S/O ?!? (I have heard SO's struggle with the cost of living in HK).

3. Any info on the selection process would be greatly appriecated !

Thanks :-)

It's a good last resort. No bonding either, so you could view it as an experience thing and then go. There might be some good news in the future, if we all stick together, so I suggest you go ahead with the interview stuff, keep your ears to the ground after July 1 and keep in mind my opening comments.

1. No. It's a good stepping stone. The worst job I've heard of guys leaving for is Virgin Blue.
2. No problem if your single. Think twice if you have a misses. Crap deal if you have young kids.
3." your cx interview" by captains xyz, about 80 dollars from pilot shops in oz. "handling the big jets" by DP Davies are good places to start.

There are a couple of other books that I would recommned reading. The Advanced Pilots Flight Manual by William K. Kershner and Flying Jets by Laura Pendleton and Fly the Wing by Jim Web. All of these are available through mail order SPORTY'S pilot shop in the US. You may not have time to read all of them for the interview but they will certainly help in your long term development.
Sporty's www.sportys.com/shoppilot/ (http://www.sportys.com/shoppilot/)

1. No, good start from GA
2. Struggle, you must be kidding! Life is a paid holiday for overseas SO's with housing allowances. Take it from an LEP.
3. In the archives. Also, ask around for booklet "Passing your CX Interview" A bit outdated but good info.

First post huh. A paid holiday for S\O's?!?!?! I don't think so. Especially not with a wife and any kids!

Methinks you are a management wind up. A few suspicious posts lately. Keep up the good work everyone. "they're here...."

Point taken. Life is great if you're single with no kids.
