Operating Pattern of Freighter Crew

Hi to all,

Some queries about freighter crew that are based in HK :

1) what are most of the operating patterns?
2) what a/c does CX use for HK based freighter crew?
3) does these F/Os start as JFOs or FOs?
4) Is the Freighter F/O basic pay same as the Passenger F/O basic?


Would be glad if any kind folks out there can help?

I don't think there are any freighter crews based in HK.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I think the freighters only fly through HK from the basings (Australia, Europe, and North America).

Anybody who currently works for Cathay care to comment??

G'day, you are quite right, no-one at freighters is permanently based in HK but there are a few guys who volunteer to be rostered out of there temporarily so they can live there. This does mean that they receive no HK allowances eg housing.

To see general info regarding CXF search on my user name, I posted something a while ago concerning rosters money etc for European crews. Cheers. JJB

I want to know how much they pay in the freighter, I wasnt able to find it using the search forum. At least not as complete as the Pax pay.
The only reference I can offer is www.ppjn.com check cathay cargo link, any cargo boy or girl can confirm those Numbers?

Questions for you....

1) Is it posssible to apply for DESO, and once accepted, to immediately request for internal transfer to the DEFO( freighter). When is the earliest possible time to post such a request to HR/Magt?

2) if you stay in the freighter to get your upgrade to command, how long minimum do you need to stay in the freighter as a Captain before you are eligible to ballot back to the passenger fleet in Hong Kong. Thank you.
