Got a question regarding the ATC strike last week in France and people being stuck in Nantes… not quite sure about the extent of the strike, but there were substantial delays/cancellations.
Any possibility to fly out with a chartered prop? Nantes being a controlled airport would pose some difficulty, right… (?) What happens to controlled airspace once ATC is on strike… a go slow would just reduce capacity, but what would an all-out strike do? Would it shut down controlled airspace completely? Would some space be allocated for special use? What is the procedure there?
Does the strike action have any effect on VFR as an alternative: could one go VFR all the way and land at some uncontrolled field? Would the fact that the flight is transborder (from Germany) be of any relevance? (In the back of my mind all international flights are required to be IFR)
They drove back with a hirecar and had a 12 hour trip, wondered if there was anything I could have done for them…
Any gen from GA / Charter Pilots with experience on ATC strikes?
:hmm:
