ATR 42 in Asia?

Am thinking of bying a typerating for the ATR42. Can anyone tell me if theres a realistic chance of getting a job in Asia with about 500 hours tt and the ATR-rating...? I am form Europe so my certificates are Jar.

I would suggest you to get a jet type rating for corporate flying. However should join a charter company or become a flight instructor to build a little bit more of hours as career experience before trying with the regionals abroad Europe, or even better try to join some of the Low fare Airlines in Europe ...

However , this is just a suggestion !

Well. Theres the moneymatter and also everybody seems bo be buying a B737 rating and if Im not even sure of getting a job afterwards!?! Also, theres is atrs in some of the countries that I will like to live in.... But I have considered the Jets. But 400 hours and a B737 rating will get me.... where???

DenC, your wasting your money mate. There is no ATR operator in Asia that would take you with those hours. Everyone I have ever seen advertise requires a MINIMUM of 500 hours on type, as they want guys who can come in and do the job, they don't want to have to train pilots. As a general rule, 2000 hours total is also a requirement.

Same goes with the 737, and just about any other multi crew aircraft you wish to mention.

Good luck in your hunt, perhaps lower your sights a tad and get those hours up, especially the multi.

I am not even hoping to come to Asia yet, but if Im able to get a lousy job here in Europe until times are better and I have more hours in the air I hopefully will be able to find something in Asia in a couple of years or more.... That was my plan/dream.
But maybe there is not so many atrs in Asia?

Don't quite get the money argument. - 737 rating is generally cheaper (unless you have a deal not open to the public), pay is generally better.

I went down the ATR route at the time, but only 'cause I had a job lined up. If you don't have a job confirmed, the Boeing rating is definately better, last 2 companies I worked for take people without hours.

Have no experience with the Airbus, nor Asia, though if you really want a job in Asia, take the advice above and build hours on the Boeing in Europe first. There are jobs here, but Asia is much, much harder to get into without the hours.

If you want to take your chances in Asia, why don't you add a cheap FAA rating to your JAA licence?

The few operators of ATRs in asia that I know of are Air Mandalay and Bangkok Airways........do not know if they are hiring, you could try you luck...all the best! Fly safe guys.....and gals:)

DenC, your post asked what chances with 500 hours, not what chance you might have with an indeterminate number of hours in the unspecified future, with an as yet non-existant type rating.

My comments regarding hours etc still stand, along with the good luck with your career wishes. I am in SEA, so I know of what I speak.

If you insist on buying a type rating (I am firmly against this option, just so you know) you are probably better off in Europe than here, see my last for reasons.
