Incident in Indonesia

"it was garuda indonesia flight no. GA501 on domestic flight from pontianak, west borneo to jakarta. captain sri handono collapsed when aircraft just passing 15000ft just a few minutes after take off. co pilot aditya barlian took over control and asked if a doctor onboard to do medical check on captain. there're 2 doctors onboard and they suggest that the captain should be brought to hospital asap. copilot aditya declared emergency and turning back the aircraft to pontianak. after landing, airport closed because the aircraft block the runway. copilot aditya couldn't exit runway because streeing tiller in on captain position only so aircraft need to be towed back to terminal.

paramedic said that the captain has already passed away before aircraft landed. the cause of the dead is still under investigation awaiting the autopsy report.

captain sri handono joined garuda indonesia in 1975. he held captaincy rating for boeing 747-200, but since garuda retire all 742 fleet, he was assigned to 737 fleet. "

Probably this Captain had SCA Sudden cardiac arrest.
Pity they did not have a defibulater on board as you have 10 mins to get it on, quicker the better and probably save his life.
I was told Gulf Air had an Arab training manager pilot experiance SCA in an efficiency meeting in their safety and survival school next door to their medical centre. They got the defibulator machine on him after 20minutes and found the batteries were flat. He died.
Probably that is why they were having an efficiency meetings.
This happened whilst the new German management team were trying to manage Gulf Air after the old Arab management team experianced A320 fatal crash.
Believe the Germans were then replaced by the Australians who seem now to be turning Gulf Air around.
