lately it is GF policy to schedule only minimum rest between flights, are they so short of pilots? or is this standard policy now? What is up with max 8 days off per roster? and why is it that only some pilots getting overtime ? If there is overtime should it not be shared somewhat equally ? :mad:

Not policy to schedule min rest, it just happens that way sometimes. Some LHR flights are min at the moment due to number of flights for summer and crew shortage. Personally not had a min rest for a couple of weeks and maybe only 3 or 4 in past 2 rosters. 8 days off is standard for as long as I can remember. How do you spread overtime around if one fleet is busier than others? Even then how do you give all pilots a share? Sounds tricky to me. Long haul fleets are o/t every month while 320 is rare to go above 75hrs. :ok:

Maybe they are only giving O/T to pilots who can perform. You wouldn't imagine the number of delays down to the GF flight deck especially with inexperienced ones when taking decisions.

I dont know if its just pilots in general or just Gulf Air's own but they have major attitude problems.

I am ignorant here so please define one roster period. I can't believe it would be a month with only 8 days off, but then again I really have no idea about how things are in the middle east (I admit I haven't read many threads here). If a roster period is not a month then, what would be the typical number of days off a month or a typical pilot's schedule look like at Gulr Air? Do foreign pilots get enough time every month or every couple of months to travel home? I checked out the Gulf Air web site, but it didn't go into those details.

nope haven't been here long, however,what does that matter when all employees should be treated the same with regards to time off. 8 days off in 30 day period seems to be the norm here and getting block of days off here depends on who you know according to some. Sharing the the overtime within fleets is not hard to do only the will is not there. Generally most of the pilots here have a great attitude but sometimes it is hard to keep it going when faced with old aircraft and out of date idiologhy.

This might help...1 day off = 36 hrs. One roster period = 30 days. Min rest, just like any other carrier, work em hard and rest em to your advantage, just the way of doing business. It's up to you to be responsible about fatigue.

In response to Air_Dream's comment's.....most often delays caused by our handling agents are written off as flight crew delays, regardless of the cause...ie: crew requests baggage ID..delay code passed on, agents pass it off as crew delay...most common one i think..don't think crew experience is a big factor in this regard


about commuting....kind of tough, as the rosters are written assuming most pilots live "in country" so to speak...this subject has been raised, and we'll see if crewing levels, regulatory constraints permit it to happen...things are changing in the rostering department, so we just sit back and wait..but to answer the question...no real commuting rosters at the time...u can request blocks of consecutive days off though, and they are most always granted...

Have to disagree with that Butt, seems you must also have some influence in the rostering department!

I don't think much has change in the rostering department, we were told that it would get better now that we have a new team running it, and I do sympathize with them with all the internal trading going on, it must be a handful to sort out!
Maybe they should insist on single status contracts only!

Nope, no influence here dude, just filled out the request and they turned up on the next roster..:ok: not necessarily the same days requested..hit about 80% on that side of it..yes lots of internal swapping and nonsense occurs..wait and see:cool:
