We have all heard of the "exodus"of pilots, mainly F/O's applying to EK, Brunei etc. Seems to me GF should give those guys wanting to go, a "carrot at the end of the stick". i.e. give them someting in WRITING, to the effect that if they decide to stay, they will be eligible for command in 2 or 3 years, provided they have the qualifications/time etc. Does EK have anything in writing to this effect? I think we all know, that subject to the above, any F/O, at the very least has a reasonable chance of a command within 2 or 3 years, if he goes to EK. I don't think any guarantees though.
The NOC thing does nothing to keep a pilot at GF/GT, rather, it just makes him bitter, and even more determined to leave. Most of the blokes I have spoken to, would be happy to stay, despite the pretty diabolical route structure we have in GT, if there was some incentive from management, to make them WANT!!! to stay, and it doesn't necessarily have to be financial, although we all know that is probably the biggest criteria for any pilot.
The rumours going around about GT, being taken over by Etihad at some time in the future, are still pretty strong. Maybe it would be a good thing, maybe not. Who knows? What we all want, is some semblance of stability. Unfortunately EK appears to offer that more than GF/GT can, as we don't know what will happen, and at this stage anyway, EK offers a brighter light, at the end of the tunnel, especially for guys hoping for a command in the fairly near future. Don't shoot me, only my opinion.
