Now that EAD are producing up to date plates on line I can finally stop throwing money at Aerad and/or Jeppesen.

As an Aztec owner who flies VFR as much as possible (to avoid charges) and flies the bulk of trips within the UK, it really hurt to pay £600+ pa to Aerad and have to update the paper, or pay £1200pa to Jeppesen for Jeppview. For occasional use the EAD database is wonderful (though I can see that it would be no good for a busy flight department.)

However, what I am now having difficulty sourcing is enroute charts. The shops don't usually stock them, and anyway it's a pain to have to either go to the shops or mail order. I would rather download an up to date copy for each flight.

Does anyone know of a source of downloadable airways charts (and indeed topos, if available)?

TIA

I know you can get charts free from AIS, but I've never come across anyone ever using them. Are these intended just for briefings? Aerodrome charts after registering at http://www.ais.org.uk/aes/pubs/aip/html/aipad2.htm

Yes, I do use the AIS charts (they are the ones published in the AIP and are the definition of accurate). I find them better than Jepp, though maybe not as good as Aerad.

However it's the area charts (you know, the things we called maps until it was drilled out of us in our ATPL classes ;) ) that I am after. I am not so bothered about Topos, but I would like to find airways charts.

Try Transair (www.transair.co.uk) or you can purchase direct from Jepp Europe.

Does anyone subscribe to either the Jepp or Aerad UK guide (the circa £150 annum)? Can you confirm whether they come with enroute charts?

Thanks,

Can't speak for Aerad, but the Jepp IFR UK volume (T-UK 04) comes complete with the two low level charts (below FL245) that cover the UK.
