Now that the UK's roads & railways are all messed up shouldn't this be a time when GA should be showing a resurgence?
But the Obstacles!
Restrictions on opening & closing times.
Fines for landing /taking off 'late' £250-00!!
Lack of runway lighting/Pilot operated systems.
Fines for landing at night even though the airfield is promulgated as 24hrs .
High landing fees/handling fees
Approach Fees/Go around Fees (Great for encouraging currency/safety)
Hi vis vests
Imagine any other industry that would tolerate these kinds of 'constraints' on trade.
I hate to run down the UK but we could take some lessons from the US.
I don't believe its down to just distances/ weather it's attitude, OK and funding.
Previous posts about trying to find a suitable airfield near London exposed a minefield of 'restrictions'
It's the Capital for Christ's Sake!!!
How has this been allowed to happen?
Does anybody else care?
Is there an organisation out there addressing this issue?

Good post !

I can remember that for many years Airports in Britain have been turned into industrial estates.
In the US the aviation fraternity would never put up with what the British do.
You are right it is high time the general aviation community got togther.

I applaud you. I quite agree, If you look at the Big near London fields that have closed over the past 20 years or so.
Hatfield, Bovingdon, Leavesden etc and now they want to close North Weald and the others that are still going charge stupid money. Biggin, Farnborough, Northolt etc.
All the field that closed were perfect for GA travel into London. What are we left with, Heathrow er NO, Gatwick er NO, Luton well possibly but were's ya wallet and is it fat enough.

I don't really know how to go about changing the situation but I'm behind you if you find a way!
