Hello folks,

Having run the pcpitstop i've found that i have 'spyware' called 'kontiki' on my machine. When I tried to delete it from my C: drive i couldn't and now don't know what to do.

I've done a search and understand the basics about spyware, but could anyone help me with
a) what is koniki
b) do I have to pay for a program to clear my system, and which one
c) how do I stay clear of it in the future

Many many thanks in anticipation...

fbs,
Do you d/l games or music? I believe that kontiki is more of a d/l manager than spyware, but I could be mistaken. Do you have Ad-aware? If so, run it & see if it detects kontiki. If you don't have Ad-aware, do yourself a favor and get it here http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/ . It's free, and works great at detecting & eliminating spyware. I run it at least once a week and usually find 5-10 spyware components on my puter.

Every time this comes up someone recommends AdAware and then a bunch of us jump up and say SpyBot (http://www.safer-networking.org/) is much better, so let me be the first this time.

And, when you have installed and run SpyBot, stop using IE and move to Opera (www.opera.com) and you'll never be bothered again!

Thank-you all - all on my computer and sorted out. Just amazing what these people put on your puter that shouldn't be there. Inverted - I don't download music but the odd game and program.

I use SpybotS&D and Adaware - if one dont find it, the other will !!

Sitting on the fence is great!
